This is for anyone who can't keep on the topic.  It's hard not to stray, but if we have 'no specific topic ' we can't go off topic.

It is good just to be able to wander and talk about other things.

I could have named it 'Waffle'.  Then I couldn't go off topic.

  • Well done Seamus you are a star. I hope to get back to normal after my Radiotherapy has finished. See my post of 7 hours ago - it's taking it's toll!!

Go for the 100 miles, it's not as cold and icy - you can do it.

Thanks Brian. I couldn't find your earlier post, but I hope things are OK. If I remember correctly you are about halfway through your treatment sessions. I had 20 sessions and found the start of week three was the lowest point as the mind says "I'm still only halfway there". However, by tomorrow, you'll be past the halfway mark and on the home straight! Fatigue will be kicking in by now and you need to give it some attention. An afternoon nap is a good idea at this stage and don't fight it. Remember that the first day when you don't have to go for RT is the first day of the rest of your life!

When I finished my RT four years ago I was so fatigued that walking more than a couple of km was impossible. A few months later I could manage 6 or 7km easily. When I did the marathon walk in January 2022 my target was to walk 12km in under 2 hours and I just managed a best time of 1:58:02. Today on my 13.5km walk I reached the 12km mark in 1:43:45. Onwards and upwards.

Good luck with the rest of your RT and come back fighting as soon as it's finished.

Yesterday is history, tomorrow is a mystery and today is a gift.

  • Wow! Seamus, if I had a hat, I would take it off to you.

I can't even manage 1 mile without breathing difficulties.

Hopefully I am getting sorted out.

Back to you though, you are an inspiration!

  • Gina, this "Tilt Table", from what I have read, you get strapped to it (no straight jacket required), then they turn the bed slowly (hopefully) until you are upright.  All the time your blood pressure is being taken.

As long as I don't end up, upside down!

I will let you know what happens.

How did Richard's birthday go?  Did you both behave yourselves?

  • Good Morning Seamus - That's a great way to look at it - The Fatigue has hit me over the weekend and I am trying to continue as normal - we live in the foothills of the Pennines so every time you take the dog out there is a hill - yes I know they go up and down! But the up's have got much steeper this weekend!!

You are doing amazing and long may it continue.

Many thanks for your continued support - it's very much appreciated at this time.

    Kind Regards - Brian.

  • Hello Brian

i know what you mean about those darned inclines which just get steeper and steeper!  We bought electric bikes during the covid lockdowns cos I was spending more of my time pushing the old bikes uphill and free wheeling down! I guess this is the same with the radiotherapy. You’ve been pushing up hill through these first sessions. Can you let yourself free wheel a bit down to the end? You’re nearer the end than the start! Perhaps a taxi instead of a bus to the hospital?  Or a good neighbour to drive you?  We’re all behind you and willing you along! This time next week you will be almost  done (and we’ll be about to start!). You can do it!!!!

take care of yourself, rest if you need and just get to number 20! X

  • Thanks WW

Funny that - I thought as I am so close to the hospital I might walk now the ice has gone and it's a bit warmer! Well that's gone out of the window - I might let Mrs Millibob have a drive today!! Day 12 today at 6.15 - I am now thinking nice thoughts - holidays - and things can only get better. The treatment is aimed at being curative - that's always at the back of my mind.

The support of my family and people here are all helping me push through - I started this thinking I am a fit 67 year old, I can get through this no issues -- Mentally I am in a good place -  my body - it's got other ideas - how wrong I was. (You won't hear or see that in print often!!).

I will keep you all posted and good luck when your other half starts his RT - and thanks again for your support.

    Brian..

  • Hello Brian, you can do it!  just think of your pride and your relief when you ring that bell!!!

We have sessions all the 20 sessions around lunch time. We asked for these to avoid rush hour times when we can take 2 hours+ trying to drive through the traffic.  In a good run it’s about 45 minutes. To go by public transport would involve a bus ride, a train journey and another bus ride - impossible! Obviously I’m standing by to be chauffeur but one of our children is stepping in to help big time, too.

one thing the prostate cancer nurse team told my husband was that no matter how tired he feels he must ‘push through it’. Not quite sure how that will work out in practice, though. We have been doing daily walks with the intention of keeping him as fit as possible - mentally and physically. Just wish it had been warmer weather.

like you, we are dreaming of holidays….it is perhaps a good coping mechanism!  We bought the Telegraph on Saturday and I spent a very pleasant few hours selecting exotic cruises, 5 star hotels, etc etc etc……just dreaming!? Bank manager would put a stop to the dreams!

I hope today goes well for you!

  • Day 12 today at 6.15

Yay, 12 down and only 8 to go! Good luck with the last few.

  • Nothing wrong with dreaming, but you would need a king size account to pay for some of them, happy dreams WW

  • useful therapy, though?   :) Cheaper than booze and safer than 'happy pills'!
