Hello Everyone.

A general inquiry-I had a P.S.A blood test a week ago and the result is not on my patient Accsess yet.Last time it was there within two days.

Does any one else use patient Accses?. I have an appointment with my Oncolegst on Monday 15th so perhaps it has been with held.

  • Hi There. My PSA reports are all differed 6 weeks in my area or is it my team, anyway I get all my PSA count via a verbal communication only. Which might be at my next pow-wow or clinical appointment if I’m lucky.

So that’s very normal not to be told via patient access, for me.

I don’t know why you got a quick report last time but I wouldn’t expect it normally.

Relax if you can. It’s only one measure of your current health.

    Take care

  • Good Morning Derek (

The issue is every health authority is different and use different systems, the NHS App, My Chart, Patient Knows Best, Patient Access etc.

it could be anything, the results aren't back, they are on someone's desk who's on holiday or they have forgot to upload the figures!

I know I get my results by e-mail good or bad - and I've had some bad ones.

I hope all goes well on Monday.

    Best wishes - Brian.

  • Hello. My P.S.A is now on Patient Access and worried it has gone up from 20.50 to 26.81.I have been on Bicalutamide of one a day since June. And advice as to what the change of tablet could be.Not looking forward to Monday's visit to the Oncologist.Derek

  • Hello Derek (

I can't give you a reason for your rise in PSA. I have just started a course of Bicalutamide (28 days worth) but I am about to go back on to 6 monthly injections of Decapeptyl and the Bicalutamide is to stop the rise in Testosterone you sometime get at the start of HT.

It will be interesting to here what your Oncologist has to say about the rise.

    Best wishes - Brian.

  • Thank you Brian.I have not heard of Decapeptyl.I was first diagnosed June 2019 so six years is not bad as Iam still hear.

  • Hello Derek (

I am nearly at the end of year 4 - and I have a rising PSA - full story here:

     RE: QUE SARA SARA

I am under The Christie in Manchester and the Consultant there prescribes Decapeptyl as she thinks it gets the best results. I never have had any issues with the injections but I think I have had every side effect going BUT if it does the job and keeps me going then I am happy!!

    Best wishes - Brian.

  • Millbob. Re,P.S.A rise as mentioned. I saw my Oncologist yesterday and she said to stop taking the Bicalutamide, wich I have been taking every day since June.Apparently continuous taking of Bicalutamide can cause P.S.A to rise as the body gets immune to the drug and the effect stops working. Now I have to stop taking it for four weeks and then have another P.S.A test.Thank you all for advice.Derek

  • Hello Derek (

Thanks for letting us know how you got on. The issue with any Hormone Therapy is that the cancer can become Hormone Therapy resistant.

Let's hope for a drop in your PSA and do please let us know how you get on.

    Kind Regards - Brian.
