This is for anyone who can't keep on the topic.  It's hard not to stray, but if we have 'no specific topic ' we can't go off topic.

It is good just to be able to wander and talk about other things.

I could have named it 'Waffle'.  Then I couldn't go off topic.

  • Hi Ulls - I've just had my annual check up and all is well HBA1C playing the game and all is good until I had to step on the scales.

2 years of hormone therapy has done some damage to my measurements - I still fit in the clothes but I have burst the odd button so it's Dry January and Diet January 2024 for me - It can't do any harm!!

And last Saturday Mickleover took us to a 3-3 draw before we beat them on penalties - how the mighty have fallen.

  • Hi Brian, well I was beginning to think that this forum should change its name to the Footie Chaps!!!

He is still in hospital. I have had problems with the Occupational Therapy girls who decided to not bother to consult me about his discharge, and told me he just wants to go home. In a nutshell, he has been in hospital three weeks now. After over two weeks, they decided in their wisdom that he was medically fit and didn't need to be there. However, he had not been out of bed in all that time, he was unable to get off the bed without the help of two people, and was very unsteady even with a frame. He walked round the bed and back once and they deemed that as "having physio". I have refused to have him home until he is stronger as I know he is going to fall again and now he has a fracture in his spine, that is not going to do him any good.  I was busy fighting this situation to get him some reablement care again in a local hospital when they have now found that the aortic stenosis that we knew he has, may be the reason for his falls! Why this wasn't suggested before, heaven knows, but now we are waiting to see if the cardiologists are going to do anything to treat the 'sticky valve'. Meanwhile, I amuse myself at my daily hospital visits.

There is a new patient (John) in the bed next to R who I think has dementia and they tend to dump his meal to the side of him and the poor guy is not always aware it is there and it stays on the tray getting cold. As I take no notice of visiting hours and go in at lunchtime, I have taken it upon myself to help him, so he can eat. However, yesterday it was like another scene from a comedy sketch.

As I passed John's bed, I said hello and he shouted at me that his hearing aid batteries were dead. Poor chap couldn't hear anyone and I ended up chasing around to get someone to go and find some. The nurses just kept saying, we don't have any batteries, but I told them all hospitals do and there would be somewhere to get them and they are free. Eventually, someone a little more switched on, asked an HCA to go to Ear Nose and Throat dept where they should be available. As he couldn't communicate with anyone, I tried sign language, lip reading etc. Another inmate was having hysterics whilst I shouted at him, pointed, gesticulated, played charades and desperately tried to inform him that someone was being sent to get them. All the time he kept shouting very loudly  "I can't hear you". I think the whole of Floor 2, B Core at Peterborough Hospital must have heard him.

Then I had a cunning plan, I would write down that someone was going to get some for him. I borrowed a pen, found some paper and wrote in my bestest scrawl. He was wearing glasses and had been reading, but when I showed him the note, he stared at it and then he just shouted "I can't see it". The comedy continued as, in desperation, and without thinking, I tried to read each word to him, but as I did so, he kept shouting again "I can't hear you"!!! In frustration, I decided to leave him and return to Richard who was not only eating his chicken salad, but having hysterics at my antics.  Every time I walked passed John's bed to do something (emptying urine bottles, clearing rubbish off Richard's tray as no bugger else was going to do it), he shouted at me, at the top of his voice - BATTERIES!!!. Thankfully, after quite a while, someone managed to get him some and peace was semi restored in bed 22. Well, at least till the physio and OT turned up to assess him and we realised that whilst putting the batteries in, the HCA may have inadvertently turned down the volume and the shouting resumed. Thankfully they had pulled the screens round him so I was able to escape without any more requests for BATTERIES!!

  • Aw bless you you are a star - it sounds more entertaining at Peterborough Hospital than watching football - although after spending 10 days in hospital in 2021/2022 I prefer to be a visitor!!

I can fully understand you want Richard right before he comes home as he's a big responsibility - don't forget help should be available - should you need it and don't forget to look after Number 1 - without you girls we would be knackered!!

I assume they will try and get him home next week as it's Christmas but if he's safer "inside" so be it.

Thanks for the update and I do hope you have a great Christmas and New Year - don't forget we are here for you if you need to unload at any time.

As I keep saying - it's my new strapline - it's OUR community and you are all part of it.

  • Brian, Ulls, I nearly gave football up in the last couple of weeks, losing 3 games in a row.  It's like it used to be in the 1980s when we were in the old 2nd division.

Ulls, looks like Sunderland are favourites for the FA cup tie.

Brian I have never heard of Mickleover before.

    Steve (SteveCam)

  • Hi Steve

We were knocked out of the FA Cup - BUT we are in the FA Trophy being a non-league team. Mickleover are in the "Southern League - Premier Central" and next up we have Hendon at home,

I did have a good day out on Saturday when the mighty Oldham Athletic won 3-2 at Solihull Moors - Onward and upwards - until Saturday when we play 'the heed (Gateshead) at home.

As I always say at 5.00pm on Saturday - there's always next week to look forward to.

Hope you are keeping well Steve - Best wishes - Brian.

  • Gina, hopefully Richard will get home again soon but the hospital are going to have to pull their fingers out to get him in the position to do so.

I love your real-life stories on how you amuse yourself at hospital.  You deserve a rest from it all and some "Gina time".

Have you ever thought of writing a book?  I'd buy a copy.

    What Brian said:

I assume they will try and get him home next week as it's Christmas but if he's safer "inside" so be it.

When I was in over Christmas 6 years ago, I felt so lonely at night, it was the first time we had been apart in over 25 years.  I was let out on Boxing Day for a few hours.

Hope you get some rest over Christmas.

    xx

  • Brian I miss not having proper matches every Saturday at 3pm.

    Steve (SteveCam)

  • That's brought back memories - I try and forget - Admitted to hospital 4.30pm 24 December 2021 came out (of a different hospital) 3 January 2022. And that was during covid - no visiting!!!  I don't smoke but I told the staff I did and met Lorraine outside for a fag once a day!!

Awful being in hospital - especially over Christmas.

Oh !! I agree football should be 3.00pm Saturday.
