This is for anyone who can't keep on the topic. It's hard not to stray, but if we have 'no specific topic ' we can't go off topic.
It is good just to be able to wander and talk about other things.
I could have named it 'Waffle'. Then I couldn't go off topic.
Drip trays, you were lucky. We had to drink from hole in 't ground.

Thanks Ulls. I am a real ale fan and a member of CAMRA too. I am going to have to have a visit up to the north of north after dry January and my sunbed sessions for a half of this nectar. I do recall being in Hartlepool and I am sure we had a few pints of Cameron's Strongarm which was rather nice.
I am 67 and can just remember the off licences in Oldham where you took your own jugs to buy a couple of pints of draught beer. The good old days eh.
Some naughty kids on here smoking and drinking - whatever next - did it do you any harm - no!
Cheers - Brian.

Yeah that's the type of off licence my Gran had. It was heaven for little boys like me and my brother. Used to love going to Grans for holidays. My Mum used to put us on the bus in 'ull when I was small - under 5 as my brother was born when I was 5 and once he could walk he came with me and I was the "big boy" then. Can't imagine anyone putting a toddler on the bus with an 8 year old now can you? My Mum ran a wet fish shop in 'ull (they needed a place to live and the wet fish shop came with a flat above) and when I was about 3 she gave me a fish - I think it was a mackerel, meaning it was for my tea but I treated it as a pet for a few days - then for some reason I couldn't fathom it disappeared? My Dad used to cycle off to pick up the fish at about 4 every morning and come back with the boxes tied to his bike for my Mum to fillet and prepare for the shop - those were the days.
Can't say it did us any good but after smoking from about 7 yr old starting probably on one a week when on holiday I gave up at 43 and haven't smoked since - but if I was to have my pipes back or a cigar I would be right back there.
I have distant relatives in hull and oldham, the hull family were fisherman's same as granda family
Yes my Uncle was a skipper on a trawler out of 'ull he made a lot of money in those days but it was such a hard job and a hard life. He offered to take me with him when I was 14 - the pay was amazing but thankfully my Mum wouldn't let me, Luckily Uncle Ken made it to over 90 - so I probably would have been safe enough on his fishing boats.
Tis but a small world. my lad spent 4 years at ull university and one of my best mates here in Oldham was born and lived in the same street in ull as my son's student accommodation - although she is now my age!!
