Hormone therapy and PSA before radiotherapy?

My husband has been on hormone therapy since the beginning of November and prior to radiotherapy. He had a blood test today and asked them to throw in a PSA test at the same time. Should his PSA be the same, higher or lower if the hormone therapy is working? I can’t find an answer to this by googling!

  • Brian, same as me, never wanted a tattoo before.  I only have one left now.  So much for them being permanent.

    Remember borstal spots?

  • WW,

My third one was in the middle of my waist, but with my ever expanding waist soon put a stop to that.

Number 3 is between my belly button (last seen a number of years ago!) and my best friend (last seen even longer ago!). A borstal spot was a tattoo under the eye (I can remember borstals and even "Approved Schools") I hasten to add I have never ben to either!.

    Kind Regards - Brian.

  • I was going to ask what Borstal spots were!  Never heard of that one even though as kids we were always told that if we were naught we would end up in Borstal. I think Borstal were only for boys, though?  He’s definitely not got a tattoo on his waist! Just want to get it all over and done with now <sigh>

  • WW,

Not to worry, the two should be sufficient for the Radiographers.

  • Well, after 48 hours of major wobble, my husband now says he will make use of the tattoos and have the radiotherapy! Phew! That was hard work. I have been telling him that he’s been short changed as far as tattoos go and your associated comments! It has lightened his mood so thank you for your comments. I think he should take over typing here! It might do him some more good!

Tell him it's time to man up (I do it all the time on HT!!!!!) and join the boys online for a chat. We can put the world to rights. Knowing that there are others in the same/similar situation to you is a relief as you realise your issues are not confined to yourself. I am pleased though that he's going ahead - it can only help.

    Kind Regards - Brian.

  • Anything that changes during radiation mention immediately to your radiographer and they will ensure that if necessary you receive any medication or advice you need.  At my cancer centre we saw the lead radiologist every week and he asked us how things were going and if there were any problems with any part of the treatment - including getting to the hospital etc.  It's amazing how fast it all goes and for me how easy it all was.

  • Thank you, Freefaller.

He received his tattoos and all the appointments yesterday. Likewise , he has review appointments throughout the treatment. We have also been given a 24/7 emergency oncology phone number in case of problems. They told us that he must mention any physical effects of the radiotherapy too. I was actually very impressed with oncology - just wish we had received the same level of care and service from urology!

  • I'll pass on your message!!!!!  I'm just so grateful that, through me, you guys were able to help!
