Today is the first anniversary of me starting my 20 fractions of VMAT Radiation treatment.
Nervous, yes.
'Fear of the unknown', yes.
Did I need to worry? No.
Totally painless, a bit uncomfortable trying to lie still on the table.
Before your treatment begins you have to start drinking 2 litres of water a day and practice holding it in.
I could only manage up to 1 1/2 litres. At the hospital, I was told off for not drinking the 2 litres per day. I didn't tell them.
When it was all finished, I couldn't wait for the next day.
When I was first day I heard the bell and heard a bell ringing, everyone stopped what they were doing and applauded.
I didn't know anything about the tradition of ringing the bell after your last treatment.
When it was my turn, I thought nobody would cheer. How wrong I was.
It gives you something to look forward to, counting down the days before it's your turn.

Yes - the bell! I liked it so much I rang it twice - couldn't help myself!
On this day last year I tried my first incontinence pad, so bloody uncomfortable. Plus I had an irritation around my pelvis area.
At my appointment I told one of the Radiologists who recommended using some 'Flamigel'
Apparently, it's only available at the Radiology department. You just have to ask. Use twice daily, it works wonders.
