Good afternoon please could someone tell me is a psa level 0.22 higher than a psa level of 0.3 I know the figures are not high however I have been through treatment and just wanted to know if they are increasing thanks in advance

  • 0.3 is the higher.

I think it is the doubling time of the PSA that counts, if it sits at low level it's ok. If it doubles in six weeks that is aggressive.

If the change is over a year, not a problem, I think. Best see your Docter if you are worried

  • Thank you for that I have to say all these figures confuse me it's just that I have been through treatment and have been told I now need to keep a record of my psa levels and not allowed to go above 2 once again thank you

  • Hi marlin66, you have not given very much information, if you touch my icon you can read my profile you might find it helpful, the more information you can provide, diagnosis, treatment, ect, the more help you will receive.

  • Sorry I went through prostate cancer and was treated with radiotherapy a year ago and being in my early 50s they have now asked me to keep an eye on my psa levels for the next 4 years only the specialist doesn't want me to go above 2 and if it does I'm to contact them straight away. I was just trying to find out if a level of 0.22 was higher or lower than 0.3 all the figures mean nothing to me but thank you for your response.

  • In my case it was low after surgery ,but was doubling up in about two months. which made it aggressive.

If you keep a record of your PSA and it doubles in a year, don't think it is a great problem, plenty time to take action.

Phone up a Cancer nurse and they will explain it to you.

  • Welcome Marlin. O.22 is lower than 0.3.  So if you went from 0.3 to 0.22 that is great.

  • Watch the first number after the decimal point. If it is rising you should be concerned. If the first number before the decimal changes from zero, let your specialist know.

  • Thank you that helps lot

  • Thank you for your help that helps a lot I can't keep up with all the figures

  • Stampede is right, the oncologist wants to be told when you're PSA 2.01 a PSA of 0.3 is a good reading, I hope it says that way for many years, also it fluctuates, I have mine every 4 weeks never had the same one twice in a row
