Not sure if I am duplicating this on another part of the site, but my husband (77) was diagnosed with advanced prostate cancer about a year ago. He has multiple bone mets throughout the skeleton and whilst initially on Firmagon (hormone therapy), he has changed to Prostap as he had too much pain from the first.
He has bladder incontinence which is manageable by wearing pads but has been having often uncontrollable diarrhea every day for nearly four months. He has had an endoscopy and a colonoscopy so far and oncology say nothing to do with the cancer. He recently had an MRI to rule out spinal compression and a contrast ct scan. Nothing sinister found that they didn't already know.
However, my biggest worry is that he can no longer can eat. I have tried everything, obviously including his favourite foods. He can manage sweet things like fruit, yoghurt and soft deserts but he just cannot mange more than a couple of mouthfuls of any savoury food and is having Energy drinks supplied by the doctor.
My questions are, do other sufferers have bad diarrhea and is total lack of appetite and inability to eat normal. He is going downhill so fast and also getting dehydrated too. I am at my wits end trying to help him.
Hi Stevecam. Yes it was EPO & SL capsules. When the effect of those started to fade, I also used a homeopathic remedy of Sepia (cuttlefish ink) about once per month. It's one tablet crunched and swallowed three times in one day. It has to be taken at least an hour away from eating and drinking so I took them at 11am, 3pm & 7pm.
Steve, if I wake up and can't get back to sleep I try two things. First, turn your pillow over. Having the cold side under your head really helps. It is a fact that you need to be cooling down in order to fall asleep and the colder side I find helps. The other thing, which may not suit your partner, is I have an Alexa device in my room and I play sounds of the ocean quietly, and that nearly always sends me off again. Richard and I have separate rooms so we can benefit from not disturbing each other but not sure how he would find the sea ebbing and flowing in his room. Probably make him want to wee more!!!
Gina
Gina, they don't have photos on. Just imagine trying to get a nice Cow photo for the passport. "No smiling! Face straight! No glasses! No Cow eyes!"
I do get the odd one with a photo pinned on. Some say Cows all look the same, but they don't.
There are over 200 breeds, very sociable and stick together ( not literally). I always find that Cows that have been on the same farms go together.
I even talk to them. They talk back, I think their vocabulary is limited to "Moo" and "Mooo". I know what they mean. It's all "Morning Steve" and "It's hot with this Coat on, is there anywhere to hang it up".
Didn't have the heart to tell them the truth.
Anyway enough for now, work calls.

Ha ha, can just imagine them chatting to you. I love cows although I am rather frightened of walking through a field of bullocks, especially with Sidney. They do tend to crowd around you if you have a dog with you and he is such a coward, he just goads them and then when they react, he hides behind me!!!
Are you a vegetarian? I seriously couldn't work in a slaughter house and then go home and eat beef.
We had an appointment with the oncology consultant today. It is a new one who has taken over from the previous one last year. He was very nice, although not terribly informative. Basically, the hormone treatment is still working. His original psa was nearly 1200 and now down to 3.4. It had gone down to under 2 so not sure why it has gone up. He initially had Firmagon monthly injections but he had so much pain and discomfort from them that he would only feel better a week before the next one. We have now changed to Prostap which are 3 monthly and he gets on with them much better. He still has the bone mets and they don't say if they have changed size. Don't know why they can't tell us but we know the cancer cannot be cured, just managed. Having spent two weeks in bed, our outing to Peterborough Hospital and an hour long wait has worn him out. I hope he will feel better once he has had a good sleep.
Cheers
Gina
Gina, I take it Sidney is your Dog. What breed is he?
I'm not a Vegetarian, my partner is. She just doesn't like the taste of meat. Eats fish and prawns a lot.
I don't miss it though. At Christmas I get a couple of Beef joints, all for me.
I couldn't give it up, the Smell of a bacon sandwich, mmm ...
1200 PSA, I thought mine was high at 12.9 when I was diagnosed!
Glad it's going down. The Hormones should get it right down to under 0
Hope the new Prostap injections work! I was on Decapeptyl, 6 monthly injections. Luckily I only had 2. Now the Oncologist told me that I was in Biochemical Remission, and as long as my PSA levels can stay between 0 and 2, I don't require any further treatment (fingers crossed).
Hope Richard is up and eating. Are the Bicalutamide still helping?
Hope this isn't taking a toll on your health!
You are probably the most important person to Richard, never mind the Doctors.
So please take care of yourself.
Steve (SteveCam)
Gina,
I went to try the "Cold Water Bottle" thing but couldn't remember where the stoppers were. Oh well!!
I did though try your "turn the pillow over idea". So everytime I got up for the toilet in the night, I flipped the pillow over.
You were right, it is cooling.
I know that you shouldn't eat or drink certain things, but these are the best things. You only live once (unless of course you are a Hindu, I think they believe that you come back reincarnated as something else. Don't know what I would like to come back as).
