Not sure if I am duplicating this on another part of the site, but my husband (77) was diagnosed with advanced prostate cancer about a year ago. He has multiple bone mets throughout the skeleton and whilst initially on Firmagon (hormone therapy), he has changed to Prostap as he had too much pain from the first.
He has bladder incontinence which is manageable by wearing pads but has been having often uncontrollable diarrhea every day for nearly four months. He has had an endoscopy and a colonoscopy so far and oncology say nothing to do with the cancer. He recently had an MRI to rule out spinal compression and a contrast ct scan. Nothing sinister found that they didn't already know.
However, my biggest worry is that he can no longer can eat. I have tried everything, obviously including his favourite foods. He can manage sweet things like fruit, yoghurt and soft deserts but he just cannot mange more than a couple of mouthfuls of any savoury food and is having Energy drinks supplied by the doctor.
My questions are, do other sufferers have bad diarrhea and is total lack of appetite and inability to eat normal. He is going downhill so fast and also getting dehydrated too. I am at my wits end trying to help him.
Just think, if you could channel Hot Flushes into your fingers it would stop them from being cold.
... but how!!!
Steve (SteveCam)
Gina,
Your comment about Richard having the room hermetically sealed had me in stitches.
On Sunday I had a mammoth Hot Flush from about 3pm until after 3am this morning.
In fact as I am writing this now I can feel it starting again. Like a bloody volcano waiting to erupt!!!
And I thought that they would start tailing off, some chance eh!!!
Anyway hope you both had a good weekend.
Steve (SteveCam)
Gina,
Just checking in to see how you both are.
All of the hot weather feels like a world away. Back to doom and gloom weather. Well it's England, what do you expect?
I get my 6 monthly PSA levels checked today. Fingers crossed it's still under 2.
I'm not overly concerned, especially when my Testosterone machine is still 'Out of Order'.
Steve (SteveCam)
Hi Steve
We are good. Glad you laughed.
Yes, hasn't it got all gloomy. I went out for walks and lunch with a friend today and it was warm but dull. Sidney and Betty weren't bothered and loved their walk along the canal with my friend's springer spaniel. We had some rain last night but not enough to stop my having to water all my pots tonight
Richard's doc is back from holiday having had three weeks in Tuscany (okay for some)! He is trying to find out how he is doing now on the Budesonide. He would not think it was the same person he saw before he went away when he sees him. He is asking me for the dosage etc??? I wonder sometimes who is the doctor and who is the carer. I made a note somewhere and now have to search for it. I am sure it was 8 weeks on 9mg, 4 on 6mg and 2 on 3mg. What was your dosage if you can remember and did you decrease the same way?
He is going to need to reduce the steroids as he is eating me out of house and home!! When the doc last visited, he signed him off as "house bound". He is now out driving, we had lunch out yesterday (first time in weeks) and he is seeing a friend for lunch tomorrow. The change is totally amazing.
Have you had your psa result yet and if not, when do you get it? Do they think the testosterone will increase again if you are off the injections? If so, is that safe and will it mean you will stop making scones. There are ups and downs to every story (scuse the pun!!)
Best regards
Gina
Gina,
Sitting here in the doctor's now waiting for the Nurse to do my bloods.
Budesonide, I was on only 1mg twice a day. Never decreased.
If my testosterone starts up, Woo-Hoo. Without a libido it doesn't matter.
I never thought I would say that..
Could be next June by the time I am working properly (if I ever did).
Knowing my luck it will come back, then so will the Cancer.
It's my camera job the week after I see the Oncologist. Busy month August. I was getting anxious about the Colonoscopy but now I am not bothered.
Just as I wrote that I got a big lump in my throat (no I didn't swallow my chewing gum).
Got to think positive, or make jokes about it..
Have to go Mrs Dracula is calling!!!
Steve (SteveCam)
Gina,
I got access to them on Friday morning. Talk about quick, they were only done at 6pm on Thursday evening.
PSA levels came back at 0.03, still way under the threshold of 2. Originally I had expected them to be right up, but what I have learned in my Course at Maggie's, it could be another 11 months. Not to worry.
I have an app on my phone called "Airmid" and can access all my medical records in real-time. I couldn't believe it was less than 1/2 a day to get them.
So at least when I see the Oncologist in 2 weeks there will be no nasty surprises.
I am back on 1 or 2 loo visits a night again, after a couple of weeks of camping out there.
Not that you want to know but Constitution has raised it's head again (literally, so I am full of S***).
I said it before you could!!
Have a nice Sunday, raining here, suppose it makes a change.
The sun got out a bit yesterday and it was HOT!!
Steve (SteveCam)
Steve
Good news with your result. I know, being able to view your records is brilliant as often waiting for surgeries to ring takes ages, or just getting through all the recorded messages before even speaking to someone.
Ha ha, did you mean constipation???? Try Fybogel, Laxido or Cocosmocol. You can get a box from the docs I am sure, but if not then a chemist will sell similar.
Rained this morning, typical whilst walking the dog, but now is sunny. Football on soon though!!
Best regards
Gina
