Not eating

Not sure if I am duplicating this on another part of the site, but  my husband (77) was diagnosed with advanced prostate cancer about a year ago.  He has multiple bone mets throughout the skeleton and whilst initially on Firmagon (hormone therapy), he has changed to Prostap as he had too much pain from the first.

He has bladder incontinence which is manageable by wearing pads but has been having often uncontrollable diarrhea every day for nearly four months.  He has had an endoscopy and a colonoscopy so far and oncology say nothing to do with the cancer.  He recently had an MRI to rule out spinal compression and a contrast ct scan.  Nothing sinister found that they didn't already know.

However, my biggest worry is that he can no longer can eat.  I have tried everything, obviously including his favourite foods.  He can manage sweet things like fruit, yoghurt and soft deserts but he just cannot mange more than a couple of mouthfuls of any savoury food and is having Energy drinks supplied by the doctor.

My questions are, do other sufferers have bad diarrhea and is total lack of appetite and inability to eat normal.  He is going downhill so fast and also getting dehydrated too. I am at my wits end trying to help him.

  • Gina,

Personally I wouldn't watch either of your weights.  Enjoy life!!!

I'm really glad Richard is eating again and really happy for you, a lot of pressure will have been lifted off your shoulders.

I'm not watching mine(well I a bit), if the Cancer stays at bay...

Get ready for a hot Monday and Tuesday!!!

  • Gina,

Hope you and Richard struggled through the crazy hot spell.

Unbelievable how hot and sticky it was, especially here in Burradon.

I won't complain, no not me!!!

Had my "Cold Water Bottle" the last 2 nights.  Bliss!!!

Nice and fresh this morning when I left to walk to work.

Yesterday, I started at 5am, finished about 13:15pm, walking home felt like I had just finished 4 weeks of Radiation.

    Anyway...

  • Hi Steve, I recon I'm about 20 ish miles south of you, spent the day under the awning lots of cool drinks, put the air con on just before going to bed set the time for 3 hours, sleept ok, I'm pleased I don't have to work anymore, trying to keep cool Ulls

  • Hi Steve,

Omg, how hot was it over the last two days. I went out yesterday just to go into cool supermarkets!! My car logged 40 dec.

I had two cold water bottles in my bed which I put in the freezer for an hour before I went to bed. One under my pillow and one further down the bed.  Worked brilliantly. When I woke, I just reached under my pillow and put my wrist on it and it cooled me down really well and an ankle on the other one. Whoever it was on this site who recommended the cold water bottles - thanks. Even better if you lightly freeze them.

Ulls, air con, lucky you !! I spent ages yesterday trying to find a portable unit yesterday and none to be had. Currys could deliver in four days but you can guarantee it will cool down by then. Just gonna stick to my cold water bottles.

    Cheers

    Gina

  • Gina,

O.Y G. (oh your God), you should have seen me walking home from work, nearly worse than I was after the 4 weeks of Radiation.

I had my cold water bottle, never thought of putting it in the freezer (wouldn't fit anyway).

It's getting hot again now, not as bad as yesterday.

    Take care.

  • Because of the heatwave, I spent the last 2 days on a camping trip to Iceland. Security guard not happy when I pitched my tent next to the frozen chips

Don't let your good days be spoilt by the worry of a bad day, that may or may not come along.

  • Ha ha ha  nice one.

    Gina

  • Mally333,

  • Gina,

This crazy weather!!!  15° now, sitting at work eating Porridge to keep warm.  I know the blood thinners don't help much.

What's the weather like where you are?

    Take care, both of you.

    Steve (SteveCam)

  • Hi Steve, mrs U is on blood thinners, it's normal for her to be cold, I have a cheeky grin, when she touches people hand's, so I understand how you are effected.

    All the best Ulls
