Hi my dad has just recently been diagnosed with prostate cancer.
He is 83 so I know he's old but I'm in pieces
Do you know your Dad's PSA or any other stats or staging related to his cancer? Has he had any scans and has he started any treatment or has his Doc suggested any treatment yet? Does he have any symptoms at all which make it hard for him to do normal things? If so there is help to be had. I know it is so easy to say try and take things easy and not worry but that is what you must try and do as worrying your self sick is not going to help any one least of all your Dad. You just need to be there for him and make the most of everything. Try and go to his appointments with him so that you can ask questions and get information yourself - knowledge dispels fear or at least knowledge informs you of the things to actually be wary of and watch out for instead of worrying about things that do not warrant the worry. Contact your local Macmillan nurse or Prostate Cancer UK specialist nurses their number is 0800 074 8383 and the specialist prostate nurses are answering calls Monday: 9am-8pm Tuesday 9am - 6pm Wednesday: 10am to 6pm Thursday: 9am -6pm Friday: 9am - 6pm - its is a free phone number to contact them and they gave us enormous help during the just diagnosed stage. or Maggies Cancer Centre if there is one at your hospital or at a hospital nearby. The people there are absolutely wonderful and other than getting support for yourself, your Dad and your family they can also help with any questions you have from wellbeing to benefits and assistance.
All the best and do ask questions, seek help, talk to your Dad about the disease and get as much information as you can. This is a hard time and there is a lot of help out there for you you just have access it.
Thanks for the reply I really appreciate it.
I don't know anything yet but hopefully will know more after Tuesday when he's had his bone scan .
Thanks for all the information
