Hi everyone, I am awaiting TURP procedure and maybe PET scan as CT scan inconclusive have a thickened bladder and tube from one kidney might be partliay blocked. Don't have any issues with catheter but have gone the whole range from chronic constipation to loose stools, think there must be pressure on rectum as well as ureatha.Has anyone experienced similar?Have recurrent cancer and lymph nodes and prostate zapped last year with radiotherapy. My PSA is 0.1 and on zoldex have cut out high fibre diet as really difficult to pass anything.

  • Bowel problems can come up after prostate radiotherapy- mine came up nearly 6 months afterwards.  It may be a good idea to be referred to a gastroenterologist - there may be one in your rad.onc team and that would be best.  I have found the best is 1 immodium a day and one fybogel.  The immodium stops me having 5 or 10 tiny bowel movements a day and the fybogel bonds what is there so that hopefully I have larger bowel movements!  Sounds odd but generally it works and I finished my radiotherapy and HT 3 years ago.  I had both bowel and bladder problems before my PCa and treatment and you too have a lot going on.  So best to see a specialist or ask your Doc as it may be changing pressure on the rectum as you suggest but only your Doc will be able to sort this out.  I saw a dietician who put me on a low fodmap diet for two weeks ( google it)  This worked for a short while.  They also found out my gut was over producing bacteria so I was put on a strong antibiotic and then put on strong pro-biotics over about 8 weeks to get things back in balance  these strong pro-biotics were not available on NHS and quite expensive but that didn't work either and I tried that twice.  I had lots of tests over 2 years and this seems to be the only thing that generally works for me. Hope you find something that works for you.

Many thanks for your advice really appreciated, will definitely try fodmap diet, I don't tolerate immodium well so I will keep it in reserve! Going into hospital on 12th February for other matters, hope to have better bowels by then.
