I'm 4 months post surgery and still experience severe fatigue.  Anyone else the same

I know i have persistent cancer,  the margins couldn't be determined due to diathermy.  First reading post surgery 1.7 second 1.0. I wake in the night for urine but cannot really feel refreshed.  Waiting for next steps but don't feel thats keeping me awake.

Any ideas welcome

I'm not sure if there's any physical reason for you experiencing fatigue as a result of your surgery.  I never experienced any.

I understand you are anxious that your PSA is apparently persistent and you may need more treatment and this may be contributing to it.  It might also be affecting the quality of your sleep, which is not always something we're aware of.

I wonder if you are well otherwise?

I imagine that your next PSA is due soon and I hope it goes down.

A further thought is that you could possibly be suffering anaemia as a result of the surgery.  Perhaps you could ask for a blood test.

If you're not anaemic and are otherwise physically well,  you might suspect you're suffering from depression.

  • Okay thank you. I suspected there wasn't anything related.

I will raise with my specialist nurse when I see her tomorrow.  I don't believe I'm depressed (I've been there before) and seem to be handling this relatively well all things considered. I'm 50 no underlying issues only picked up due to a psa blood test.

    Regards

Anaemia is the only 'related' thing I can think of.  If you've suffered depression before you should recognise the symptoms.

So it may be unrelated.  See what the nurse says, but be aware that they are only  "specialist" in urology and if it's unrelated, that's all they'll be able to judge.
