I wonder if anyone can help please?
To cut a long story short after three years (diagnosed with incurable advanced prostate cancer) of having the pro-strap hormone injection my PSA level has started to rise. My oncologist has decided to put me onto radiotherapy which wasn't an option three years ago but apparently technology has advanced and it is now an option.
After getting home I realized I had several questions which I should have asked, such as, is radiotherapy a daily or weekly treatment, how long does a session last and what percentage of men get (if any) of the listed side effects? Also how effective is radiotherapy in treating the cancer?
My treatment starts on the 29th of this month and I had a few days out planned in September and early October and I don't know whether to cancel these.
Any help and advice would be greatly appreciated.
Hi
I am incurable to, I had radiotherapy in my case it was twenty sessions, five per week mon/fri. The session lasts for around 15/20minutes.
Side effects can vary, dihorea can happen while having the treatment happened only once for me, the other effects can take months or even years to show themselves, I have a lot of stomach problems, some the radiotherapy and some not. We’re all different.
hope this helps

Hi Steve,
I have only had the HT so far.
The cancer has spread to my head, leg and Lymph Nodes. This was three years ago and my latest scan has shown that it has not changed. So only my PSA level has changed.
Thanks for the reply.
Best wishes
Dave
Ok Dave, I'm sorry to hear that.
Hopefully the RT will help you, are they intending to cover the three areas concerned ie legs, head and nodes although obviously u have nodes in more than one area .
Steve
Hi Steve
Just the prostate as a recent Abdomen and Pelvic scan showed that my prostate was enlarged and pressing on my bladder causing toilet problems. So hoping the RT will help.

Hi Dave,
Have you had second line HT yet such as Abiraterone?
Hi Gemma,
No this was never mentioned by the oncologist. I didn't know that a second line HT existed until you mentioned it. Thanks for telling me about it.
