Heard it several times. I know what they mean but anyone reading these pages will know that it is an immense and long trial possibly going on for the rest of your life. Everybody seems to know of someone who has had it and is carrying on as normal afterwards.  But they don't know the half of  it.  Reminds me of the Tampax adverts which say you will be able to Horse ride, water ski and climb mountains after using when you couldn't do anything like that before.

  • Sharp and long intake of breath.  Yes, I suppose know what they mean but it is a trial and worse depending on what stage you have and the treatment and side effects you are having.  People mean well but unless they have actually suffered or had someone close to them suffer they don't know.  There have been quite a few conversations on facebook about things not to say to cancer sufferers and the one about knowing someone who has it and is "back to normal" usually comes near the top of the list!  Don't think you can ever be normal even after you have been cured of the disease!

    Freefaller,

I must agree with you.  I'm definitely not normal........ Ghost

  • Yep. I don't think I'll ever be 'normal' again. As some of you may know, I passed the magic 5 year mark for bowel cancer recently but found I had prostate cancer about  4 months before that milestone. Years of worrying about CEA blood tests, colonoscopies, scans etc all finished, now starting again with PSA tests after radiation and whatever else might come up. The only 'comfort' was that it is Intermediate Favourable. Yes I am feeling sorry for myself at times and also angry that the PC appeared when I was about to try and be 'normal' again. No chance, even if the PC wasn't found. Rant over. Sorry.
