Hello Lorraine, my name is Martin,I’ve got a couple of questions about me and my prostrate cancer that I hope you can help me with or at least point me in the right direction.
A little background information, I am 66, in a relationship with a lovely lady and we are living together . Pre cancer we hadn’t been together for very long as we had both been widowed ( she for 12 years and me for 2 ) we had as is the norm with any new relationship a fulfilling and exciting sex life. We are/were very fit and active we met doing ballroom dancing and pre-COVID would go dancing 4 or 5 times every week. Then prostrate cancer, I was diagnosed in December 2019, and had the usual battery of test and mri etc, in late January 2020 my consultant recommended that I went for a radical prostatectomy, I then got to see a surgeon in Exeter who does the robotic surgery. I was scheduled for an operation in March but Covid struck and all was cancelled. I had a short course of hormone therapy, which didn’t like at all, I got a bit moody and put on some weight. Luckily for me I had the op in June , I had the robot assistant, radical prostrate removal with a partial nerve sparing.
As recommended by the staff at the urology unit I’ve always done a lot of pelvic muscle exercises, they said a would help post op. Since the removal of the catheter post op I have been 99% dry no pads at all , I’ve have had one or two times when during a heavy sneeze or cough that catches me unawares when I’ve leaked a little but nothing major a tiny amount not enough to get embarrassed about. From reading stuff on the web I realised that I’m very lucky and I’m exceptionally great full . However the sex thing isn’t working as well as I would like and I need some help or advise to improve things. I don’t find this talking about stuff that easy but I’ll do my best, sorry if I ramble a bit. I have tried viagra and it really didn’t do much for me, I now take a daily dose of tadalafil 5mg, which works up to a point. During fore play with my partner I can and do get an erection , but it’s not hard enough to penetrate and doesn’t really last long enough for us. I normally have to finish my partner off by hand , I know I can’t actually ejeculate any sperm anymore but I can still have the feeling of doing so. Is there anything that you recommended that could help us to improve our sex life, thank y9u in advance.
