Increased PSA - 20

Hi everyone.

My journey so far is listed in my profile but earlier this year in February I returned a PSA level of 10 which resulted in a 2nd biopsy, of which identified 1 of 25 biopsies showing low grade cancer with a Gleason score 3+3.

So the plan going forwards was active surveillance with PSA test every 4 to 6 months followed by review appointments and likely MRI scan every 12 month.

After my latest PSA test yesterday, I have just received a call from my GP concerned that my latest PSA level has increased to 20. My next review with the active surveillance team is not until 30th July.

I was hoping you guys may be able to provide some guidance on the likely next course of action from the hospital or any advice as to what I should be pushing for next i.e various scans/tests.

Many thanks in advance.

  • Hello

PSA doubling in 4 months - not good. I will stick by my comments in my reply in this thread

     Fluctuating PSA levels .

You can now add an MRI and bone scan to this.

It's not an appointment with the AS team you need - it's one with urology and ASAP - you don't want any further PSA rise and risk the cancer going "walkabout".

Do let us know how you get on.

    Best wishes - Brian.

  • Hi Brian

Of the different scans is there one in particular I should be looking for?

    Many Thanks

    Neil

  • Hi, I had mentioned this test on another post but don't think it was answered. Do they have the PSMA PET/CT scan in the UK? This is a specific scan looking at whole body (bones & organs) from skull to thigh for prostate cancer. Wishing you the best.

  • Hello Neil (

There are 4 possibles I have listed

    CT

    MRI

    PSMA-PET

    Bone Scan

The best one is the PSMA-PET scan - that will find the cancer where ever it is in your body - but will probably refused on cost grounds (about £2750).

After that go for the MRI, to me the next best.

The CT (with contrast dye) and Bone scan should be offered anyway.
