Hi All, I’m been quiet on here for a while but feeling pretty wobbly and know you’ve all been a huge support before, so I’m hoping you can help me now… My husband was diagnosed with stage 4b PC last January 2025 with a PSA of 186. He had a really good response to triplet therapy initially and PSA got down to 0.03 in October but it’s been slowly rising. He’s had PSMA scans and initially there we just 2 small spots so those were zapped, but now it’s showing the early stages of being castrate resistant. His PSA is now up to 5.9 (results just came in) His oncologist has recommended starting Lutetium 177 soon and we are fortunate that we have private medical that will hopefully cover this. But emotionally and logistically its going to be hard - we have 2 young children (including one age 3) and my husband will need to move out and isolate from them for a week (as we’ve decided it’s too hard to explain no cuddles). I’m hoping for some success stories of people who have been in a similar situation and Lutetium 177 has brought it back under control. We’re trying to stay positive but it is really hard…
My husband was diagnosed with Advanced Metastatic Prostate Cancer in November 2024 with PSA of 311.
He completed triplet therapy and PSA came down to 4.6 but within about 3 months it started to rise again. He Darolutamide was stopped as his cancer had become hormone resistant and started a 2nd course of chemo which was stopped in Feb as it wasn't working and PSA was still rising.
He is now under The Royal Marsden waiting for a slot to become available on a clinical trial.
We too have looked at Lutetium-177 and his PET scan shows his cancer has the protein PSMA. However, we would have to self fund this treatment and from the research I have done to date it would prolong life by about 4 months so it is a big decision to make.
I too would like to hear about others experience of this treatment.
Thanks so much. Our oncologist has said she’s seen good sustained responses with Lutetium 177 when used at a slightly early stage (I think the clinical trials where the 4 month data was when it was used as a last resort treatment). I appreciate it’s a massive decision whether to self fund though, so send lots of support. If you’re speaking to the Royal Marsden, it’s worth asking about the new immunotherapy drug VIR-5500 as that seems to have had remarkable success. Please do DM me if you’d like to share info / experiences. All the best, Anna
Hello Anna (Anna42)
I ran your question about members who had had this treatment with our search facility and the beat answer I got was this:
