I had my mri scan this week got my bone cancer next week I'm 64 years of age and really just want to know my best options are with t3a no stage prostate cancer.i was told total removal of prostate or to remove the core, I've also got enlarge prostate, I really don't want surgery route,I was given tamsulosin tablets last week.which really have help my visits to the toilet during daytime and diffently during the day.cant remember now what I was told if they didn't help my flow I would have to have core removed .or they could not do that operation .I rather go hormone tablets , and radio therapy or i might just to leave it in their hands , I really don't want to die just yet
Hi CFc and welcome.
I always feel that once escaped the gland then HT and Radiotherapy best option but of course that is just my opinion.
I never fancied having a major op and radiotherapy is relatively easy.
Hopefully you can start on HT soon to stop it in its tracks.
You don't mention a Gleeson score?
But also see what others say
Best wishes
Steve
Hello Cfc
I did list the options open to you here:
Hi iam new to this and quite scare
The normal route is for you to meet both a surgeon and an oncologist to discuss your treatment options. I have an enlarged prostate and also a T3aN0M0 (click on my name or avatar to see my journey) diagnosed over 4 years ago and not dead yet - in fact enjoying life more now - on holiday in Wales as I type this! .
Wait for all your results to come in and then have your meeting with your team and discuss what YOU want to do - it's your choice, you don't have to have surgery.
Best wishes - Brian.

Update on myself after receiving message from fom letter that as been passed on to my docs explaining that mri scan show a new piRADS 4 lesion on the right side of his prostate, which led to another biopsy, these have shown gleason 4+ 3 Cancer particularly from abnormalarea seen on scan, the longest core being 12mm and there is evidence of capsular breach, and we will send him for ct scan just had that last week, and bone scan this week.we also put him on tamsulosin to see if it's improves flow etc ,and visits to the toilet which ,I been taking for a week and last two night I've only got up once so that part as work if it as not they will operate on me by removing the core, well thankfully it as so , may be now just hormones injections and radio therapy , only time now will tell
Hello Cfc
The TURP operation doesn't remove "the core" - they "shave" the bottom of the prostate where it's grown into the urethra to improve your "flow". I should know, iv'e had one.
I hope this helps, happy to answer any questions.
Best wishes - Brian

You won’t. Your prognosis so far should be “curable pathway” from what I can see. Certainly HT & RT (possibly with brachytherapy to ensure that gland is fully blasted). Ask your consultant. You sound like RT is your preferred option anyway (and should be, considering the apparent breach of the capsule). The idea of surgery to remove the gland followed by RT would have a large effect on side effects and you’re still young to endure that for the rest of your life. AW
Well bone scan done today ct last week now the waiting game, bone scan was ok today surprised it was not longer than 20 mins, I guess now it be another blood test and urine flow test to check my flow etc , I'm sure the tamsulosin have made a big different certainly less weeing in the night and diffently day time to even my notice the difference in that, she use to always say do you want a pee now lol, well u have to laugh and we do, I told her today I'm 64 now and we better than I was 10 years ago,
