My OH has undergone 8 rounds of chemo (Docetaxal) last being 8 weeks ago. He is feeling very lethargic and has no taste ( I know this is a side effect) but for the past 2 weeks his legs are swollen and he is feeling very cold all the time. Is this a side effect? Dr at Onchology doesn’t think so although information says it is
Hi MalaMala
I am having my sixth round of Docetaxel next week (and my last - I hope)
Fatigue is a big component of the treatment (especially if treatment also includes Hormone Therapy as mine does). I am also thinking that there is a cumulative effect - so each recovery is not as complete as the previous one, this is my personal experience.
Unfortunately we are all different and react in our individual ways.
One way I keep track of things is by checking my temperature (especially in the first ten days whilst immune-suppressed) at least twice a day - morning and evening. I use an in-ear thermometer like they use in hospitals and it is very accurate. So it would be good to correlate "feeling cold" against actual body temperature. Remember the guidance for the hotline/red card is 36.0 - 37.5 C and if outside these parameters they always say to give them a ring.
I have no experience of swollen limbs - just very painful ones during the first week or so after infusion.
I have also lost my sense of taste - it is so annoying. Smell and texture help me to enjoy food, so the crunchier the better! I do "get" spice and citrus but not much else. I am led to believe that it should come back but it will take a bit of time....
And I also get "chemo-brain" which on top of the hormone effect means I do forget stuff a lot of the time....
I am sure that others will be able to comment more specifically about the swelling issue and their personal experiences.
