Treatment for metastatic PC

New area of research for me.

Recently discovered that my prostate cancer has returned after radiotherapy in 2019. Just seen my oncologist who ran through the 2 options for me. Ongoing daily hormone tablets, Enzalutamide, or 6 sessions on chemo, Docetaxel.

Potential side effects are somewhat daunting and obviously outcomes can vary person to person.

Unsure of which to choose, so input on actual instances may be helpful.

Thank you in advance

  • Hi  , sorry to hear that your PCa has returned.  I have had both and for me I didn’t like either.  Lots of people have Docetaxel and Enzalutamide and sail through it, so you can’t use experience to predict.  My question back would be where is your cancer now and which option is most likely to give the best outcome.

    Best wishes, David

Please remember that I am not medically trained and the above are my personal views.

  • Hello ,

I'm very sorry that your PC has recurred following RT in 2019.

You say you're being offered 2 options, does this mean HT & Enza only or chemo only without HT - and not a combination of all three?

If chemo only, on the basis that I had docetaxel a couple of years ago and although it's not nice, if your consultant thinks it will be effective for you and it avoids HT & Enza for now, holding these in reserve if needed later, I'd go for chemo if it does indeed give you a good chance on its own.

I did a blog of my chemo treatment, which was part of triplet therapy (HT and darolutamide), and a link is below if you want to read it.

Any questions, just ask and I'll do my best to answer..

    All the best, Derek.

  • Thank you David

Having also read other responses to questions, the "outcome" from whichever treatment, is my key question to ask.

  • Thank you for the information provided on your blog. Certainly a testing time for you and sorry to hear Trump has scuppered your plans.

My treatment is hopefully less severe with three monthly injections of decapeptyl to run in conjunction with either just chemo OR Enza ongoing. Consider I'm leaning towards chemo and have Enza in reserve.

Hope you get your road trip.

  • Thanks, I hope it's successful and goes well for you.

Keep us informed as and when you have time.

  • Both are ok. The hormone treatment works for some people so well that they are able to control their psa for 2 years. It all depends upon the resistant clones. In some people like me, the resistance to ADT came way too fast, within 8 months. So i was given 6 cycles pf docetaxel chemo whichbi completed on 24th april 2026.

Chemo does spund scary but the side effects are manageable. I had severe constipation, and fatigue and freq hot flashes....but i coped with it.

So be strong and commnece the treatment. Hormone therapy works well for many. Only thing you will need to manage is loss of muscle, belly weight gain, fatigue, and hot flashes.

Hit the gym do weights, eat good protein.....

  • I’m sorry to hear you are back in the treatment bay.
