Hello, Mike, my husband was diagnosed with prostate cancer which has spread to his spine and pelvis. Hormone therapy (Firmagon) reduced his PSA to undetectable. He also had one session of radiotherapy 11:months ago.

The pain stopped but came back again today. Mike won’t say how he’s feeling as he tries to protect me, I have Parkinsons and my anxiety levels are not helping him.  You all helped 11 months ago and we were both grateful any guidance on how to cope and how to help Mike would be appreciated. I wish he’d come on here for support from people who can relate to how he is feeling.

Thank you

Moira

  • Hi Moira,

I am sure that you will get some helpful advice on here, but the main thing is to contact your oncology team and report any changes in Mikes condition since your last visit.

They are the people who can organise any necessary scans or changes to treatment.

After that as regards emotions and feelings both this Forum and The MacMillan chat service are as good as anything.

  • Hello Moira (

Welcome back - although I am so sorry to read of Mike's issues.  in the post above is spot on with their advice:

    * Do contact Mike's oncology team and tell them of his pain - they will either be able to change his treatment and offer pain relief.

    * As for your own feelings of anxiety - yes do call our helpline on 0808 808 00 00 (8am to 8pm 7 days a week) it's there for both of you and they can help with support.

    Best wishes - Brian.
