Hi all,

Had my Radiotherapy Planning Scan recently all went well in regards to Bladder and Bowel preparation and the scan itself  but wasn't exactly what I expected as didn't come away with any tattoos...

I was told after the scan  that it is SGRT (Surface Guided Radiotherapy) that i will be receiving and it's guided by real-time 3D camera systems and advanced software, so tattoos are not needed for positioning... I am hoping for late time slots so I can still work and go for treatment straight after,  the slots have been requested by my Oncologist but she couldn't guarantee this, thankfully the treatment centre is walking distance from home...

In the meantime I've been told to prepare diet wise, and  lay off of gas inducing foods and drinks, I've been mostly Vegan since the start of this journey so gonna be a bit of a change temporarily, and to drink 2.5 litres of water per day to get my Bladder healthy and used to feeling full... Also to moisturise Groin, Buttocks, lower Waist/Hips and tops of Thighs as it can get sore in these areas and this helps to prevent this...

Recieved my CT with contrast restaging Scan results on my App and the Radiographer noted no visible disease anywhere including Pelvic area, also Prostate and Lymph nodes are normal size...  I realise a CT scan is not gold standard for this and there's more than likely microscopic residual disease still lurking around,  hopefully this has been weakened and sensitised by the Prostap and Docetaxel Chemotherapy and the Radiotherapy is successful mopping it up Fingers crossed

Hope there's some useful information for others...

All the very best

Jay

  • Hi Jay ( ) haven’t seen you around for a while but you seem to be doing very well.  It looks like the tattoos are going out of fashion as more up to date kit is rolled out so you didn’t need the little dots.  Having managed the planning, the rest is just more of the same, so avoid anything that induces wind.  I am sure you will be fine, just follow the instructions the team provide.  As for going to work before RT that probably won’t be an issue, but recognise that you may get more fatigued after a week or two.  I found the team really obliging about trying to fit around my timescales so let’s hope yours are the same.  The only other advice is to tell your team if anything unusual happens, as they seem to have solutions for most issues.

    Best wishes, David

Please remember that I am not medically trained and the above are my personal views.

  • Hi Jay,

I had SGRT in late 2024, which does still seem to be quite uncommon. As you said, no tattoos............and perhaps more importantly, I got no 4 week supply of enema kits ! The RT itself was a bit of a non event, I had no side effects and no moisturising instructions beforehand - just not needed. None of the "usuals" mentioned having much in the way of RT problems either - the HT seemed to be far more troublesome.

My treatment hospital was also very helpful with treatment times so that I could get off-peak train tickets and not have to pay full fares.

    Good luck......
