I haven’t posted here in a long time. I did initially when my husband was diagnosed in 2023 with prostate cancer. PSA 252 and abnormal DRE. Started immediately on HT and then had CT scan showing hot spot on pelvic lymph node, bone scan normal. Biopsy showed T3 N1M0, Gleason 3+4=7. Started on Abiraterone and Prednisolone due to high PSA in case of micro mets and started a month of radiotherapy in November following gold seed implants in October.
I can’t tell you how invaluable the support I received on here was at the time, a special mention to the wonderful Milibob and Always Hope for their support. I haven’t posted much as I have found that, rather than bother people, most of my questions were answered by other people’s posts and I took great comfort from the replies they received, which covered a lot of my own questions. Although I haven’t posted I have popped in and out lurking in the background as I care about everyone else’s journey. I was heartbroken to hear of the loss of Always Hopes lovely husband and some of the other members that lost the battle with this dreadful disease but the battle and courage will never end, not if this lovely group have anything to do with it. Brian still makes me smile a lot with his courage and great humour and positive attitude, even when he hits a wobble himself he meets it head on and faces the future with a positive attitude that rubs off, certainly for me. My husband finished his hormone injections in September of this year and also stopped his Abiraterone and steroids. He is beginning to feel less tired already as the side effects and fatigue from Prostap and Abiraterone were pretty rough. He had a follow up PSA done two weeks ago and it is now at 0.3. I just wanted to post to let some people know that even with high numbers like he had, of 252, it can be brought under control. We are well aware that in the future he may well have to restart hormone therapy or treatment if it starts rising but right now we are grateful for the respite. It has been the best Christmas present ever.
I want to wish everyone in this community a Happy Christmas and New Year and a big thank you to you all for all the help and support you have all given me.
Best wishes
Linda x
