Hi,

My dad has been diagnosed with localized intermediate-risk prostate cancer, specifically Gleason 4+3 (Grade Group 3). His pathology report showed 3+4 but at the urology meeting the guy said it’s 4+3.

they have started him on

Relugolix 120 mg which they said is for 3 months and then radiotherapy they’ve recommended.

im so scared and worried! I’d like to know more.

  • Welcome to our little club that no one really wants to join. Both sorry and glad to see you here.

We are not medically qualified, except by experience, so we can help in ways that are different from doctors.

The web page shows you the various side effects of Relugolix, but, strangely, does not tell you how good it is.

    https://www.macmillan.org.uk/cancer-information-and-support/treatments-and-drugs/relugolix

it is a highly effective treatment in freezing a tumour in place and then shrinking it.

After three 3 months your father who receive radiotherapy designed to kill the cancer. That, too, is extremely effective.

You may find this web page interesting, helpful and, perhaps, reassuring:

    https://www.nice.org.uk/guidance/ng131/chapter/Recommendations#localised-and-locally-advanced-prostate-cancer

This is the information your GP will look at to follow your treatment.

Others will be along soon to offer you their help and encouragement.

Get as much information from your Dad and posted it here.

We will help as much as we can.

    Steve

    Changed, but not diminished.
  • Hi Zoya

    Doesn't look too bad really..

Localised, Gleeson not particularly high, potentially easy to treat and curable.

Do u have any PSA figures cos that can also give more clues.

    Best wishes

    Steve

  • Hello

Welcome to the group from me, although I am so sorry to find you joining us. Dad looks to be in good hands and as Steve ( said in his post above, the Hormone Therapy will stop the cancer from growing and the Radiotherapy will kill it off. Dad's on a "curative pathway".

Just one thing, Hormone Therapy can weaken your bone structure so if dad isn't already on it, he needs a prescription from his GP for calcium and vitamin D tablets.

I wish you both well moving forward - please do ask any questions, nothing is too trivial.

    Best wishes - Brian.

  • Thank you for your reply, psa was 16, he has a big prostate too

  • Thank you for your reply. Honestly I feel so lost in this journey.

  • So that's not too bad then, mine was 13 just before.I started treatment.

Don't worry too much as does look like a low key affair.

It's good that he has started on HT and.in due course probably just Radiotherapy to go which is relatively easy

    Steve

  • He hasn’t met the oncologist yet, so not quite sure if the ht will continue after his radiotherapy.

  • Hi  ,  firstly, don’t panic.  Being on HT gives you months while the tumour is shrunk and the prostate is then in a better state to receive RT.  The plan will be to zap all the cancer cells with RT and hopefully that will be an end of it.  HT will cease shortly afterwards, but different oncologists have their own favoured techniques.  The plan will be for a complete cure, so by next Christmas this will all be fading in your memory.  Please come back with any questions, but in the meantime until treatment, just have a normal Christmas.

    Best wishes, David

Please remember that I am not medically trained and the above are my personal views.
