I've have just started taking Bicalutamide and was wondering if and when the side effects might kick in. Obviously the weight gain and Boob enlargement if it happens will take time but more thinking about the immediate side effects, would appreciate you sharing your early experiences

  • Hi Lee ( ), sorry you have joined our club, but welcome.

I imagine you are on Bicalutamide for a short time and due to have another HT administered alongside.  To be honest, there isn’t a ‘normal’ response, we are all different.  I can’t think that I noticed much on Bicalutamide but hot flushes did start when I went onto Zoladex.  ED is one of the most common side effects and could kick in quite fast, but again depends on each individual.  Breast tenderness started after about 6 months with me.  Hope this helps, but please ask any questions.

What is your staging from the biopsy (that’s the TNM) and what other treatment options are being considered.

    Best wishes, David

Please remember that I am not medically trained and the above are my personal views.

  • Further treatment will be discussed on the 19th when I meet my oncologist for the initial meeting. I think I was put on Bicalutamide quickly just to get me going with HT

  • Made my nipples quite tender ! Symptoms went away when I started hormone therapy injections of Decapeptyl.

  • Hello Lee (

Just two points to make in addition to  post.

    * If you are starting HT and don't want a pair of man boobs (not everyone grows some - I have a nice pair!) you need to ask your team foe medication to prevent this at your meeting on 19 December - as once you have them, they are there to stay!

    * Ht weakens your bone structure, so you need to ask your GP for a prescription for Calcium/Vitamin D tablets.

    Best wishes - Brian.
