Appointment cancelled at the last minute

We got a phone call to say that my husband’s biopsy results hadn’t come back so they had to cancel his appointment.  Not their fault but it’s another anxious wait and we really hoped he’d start with his treatment.  it’s 64 days now since referral.  I hope he’ll be seen soon as we’re getting so close to Christmas.

  • Hello

I am aware that the labs testing samples are now very busy as more men are being tested due to all the publicity at the moment. It may help if you contact the hospital PALS office (Patient Advisory & Liaison Service). Tell them the delay is causing anxiety, remind them of the pathway deadlines and see if they can speed things up for you.

To help us help you, can I ask you to add your husband's journey to his profile (you can read mine & many Community member's by clicking on their name or avatar). To do this on your home page, click on the chair - top right, then "profile" then "edit". Once you have written something remember to click on "save".

    Best wishes - Brian.

  • Horrible waiting my biopsy took 8 weeks ,without the other stuff missed the 62 day thing by miles

  • My hubby had a transperineal ultrasound biopsy on Monday. He was told by his healthcare team that it could be up to 7 weeks before he would receive his results.

  • I was initially told 10-16 weeks. I got on to my urologist who said that was wrong, contacted the lab and it was reported in just over a week. So, my advice would be not to accept that, but to chase. It’s also probably a worse case scenario.

  • The Dr told my husband it was because of the volume of biopsy's that were being carried out.

  • Yes, they said the same to me: the big push for more men to have psa testing is probably not matched by an increase in capacity within healthcare?

  • Unfortunately I think that's the problem.
