Hi all. I’m now 9 weeks 1 day 4 hours post op. ( not that I’m counting ) As you will see from my profile Got my post op path results next Thursday and wondered how long these meeting usually take and how detailed they go into it. I’ll be glad to finally know but in a way I’m happy in ignorant bliss at the minute. I suppose this is going to be the way going forward with 3 monthly checks . With my stats I’d be happy with a good meeting next week and see what the future holds. Anyone had these thoughts. Hopefully I’ll still be worrying in 5 years time. ! Cheers all. Great forum. Simon
Usually the discussion after a procedure is longer than others because they need to explain everything.
In my case if was about 20 minutes, but that was probably because I had radiotherapy rather than surgery.
You will need more time because they will want to explain the histology and the full meaning of the results.
There will be something that discusses how the procedure, and then explain them to you.
There will be a what's your name, and date of birth so that they know you are who they think you should, and questioning the effect of the person you had.
Then they will give you the verdict. After that it's staging the next appointment. You will get used to it.
Steve
Changed, but not diminished.
Hi Simon. Just to clarify, I have been having 3 monthly PSA tests since my op 3 years ago. I do find them a bit worrying wondering what they will show but I am sure that is to be expected for most. The follow up has always been with my cancer nurse and that has been a telephone call. I am not sure of the benefits of ""igorant bliss"". You and I have possibly had our lives saved by the initial diagnosis. That may not have been the case if we had ""ignorant bliss"" at that time. My thoughts are it is best to know of a problem with your body. That way there is a chance of the problem being tackled. At the meeting I would envisage you will be told how the op went generally, whether the lab test gave clear margins around the removed culpret, what was removed, the findings and a final Gleeson Score. I think my meeting took 15 to 20 mins. Hopefully it will be all good news which will put your mind at rest. Suggest you take pen and paper. All the best with the meeting.
Hi all. Had post op appointment today and psa undetectable. Negative margins although it was encroaching on my bladder so treatment was definitely needed Surgeon said I’ve had best possible outcome. I’m glad I had surgery though I know it’s not always the best option I’ve had great help in the last 7 months since diagnosis but I’m going to bow out for a bit as I need a few weeks of non pca thinking as it has become all consuming at times. I’ll be back but in the new year with help regarding surgery. Cheers all. ( Millibob ). Thanks. Simon
