Treatment started

Well, just about three months after my PSA test my treatment has started.

It seems my prostate is very enlarged at 145 ml (I had previously read 115 ml) so shrinking the prostate to avoid urinary issues is a priority.

A TURP was discussed but subjectively my urinary issues are being eased by Tamsulosin, so we'll put that off for now.

I had my first HT injection (Zoladex) and I have my 28 day supply of Bicalutamide to counter 'tumour flare'.  That takes me into the new year when I expect my CT planning scan to be scheduled. RT should begin about 4 months from now.

Total length of HT could be anywhere from 6 months to 2 years.

Brachytherapy has been ruled out and a gel spacer for my bowel is not advised, as it requires surgery which could aggravate my heart condition. The benefits are not considered to outweigh the risks.

I feel very positive and I'm glad I got advice here about making lots of notes and asking lots of questions. It's helped me feel in control.

Onward and upward. Strength to you all, patient or partner/support.

Regards,

Chris M

  • Hello Chris (

Thank you for the updated post. I wish you well moving forward. We don't all get the side effects from the HT and they do creep up on you so good luck with that one.

I feel very positive and I'm glad I got advice here

That's the attitude, and being positive is half the battle. You are doing great. Stick with us and keep us posted.

    Best wishes - Brian.

  • Brilliant.

It sounds good, and when you get stuck in it will be better.

Ask all the questions you need to.
