Hi there,
I had my blood test for PSA back in September 2024 and it was 22
I had a wide radical prostatectomy in December 2024
After the op in March my PSA was 0.09 which my consultant said was unusually high, he was expecting 0 to 0.04
so he told me to have another in 3 rather than 6 months
My next PSA test in May 2025 was 0.10 which he was hoping would have been lower so l had a test while l was with my consultant.
These results had stabilised at 0.10
My latest September test was 0.11 which they said they were happy with.
My question is if someone could help me, is how does the lower end of this chart work ?
I believe they said if it reaches 2 then they will get me back in for further treatment.
Am l right to worry as no one seems to explain how this works
Hello Rod the Mod
I am sorry to read you have a rising PSA (It's a club I am in at the moment !).
So as your consultant said after surgery your PSA would expected to be between 0.00 and 0.04 (there are other sources of PSA apart from the prostate but the amounts produced are minimal).
As your PSA is slightly higher he's keeping an eye on you. Many surgeons use 2 as a marker to say you need further investigation and the most accurate scan a PAMA-PET scan can't pick up any spread until your PSA is above 0.2.
Personal thoughts, I agree with Mr U - relax, the Prostate's gone, as it was removed in December 2024 I assume the histology was clear and they said they had everything. There could be many reasons for the increase in your readings of 0.01 - different laboratory conditions, you exercised or had sex in the 48 hours before the test etc.
Personal opinion - (easy for me to say) put it to the back of your mind and get on with life.
Best wishes - Brian.

Thank you both for your words of support and encouragement much appreciated.
Is there a PSA chart that states how the scale works as no one seems able to advise me or even if one exists ??.
Kind regards
Don't think there is a chart as such but as Brian has said, if goes above .2 then further tests and treatment needed/considered
Your current level looks ok as long as doesn't start an upward trend.
So next couple of PSA tests important obviously, good they're doing every 3 months.
Unfortunately after any PC treatment it's something we all worry about IE is my next PSA going to show an increase.
Anyway all looks ok at present so good luck
Steve
Hello Rod the Mod
No there's no chart - every oncology department works with their own thoughts.
For example my PSA was rising - I had two 3 monthlies both rising 3+ and then 6+ so we agreed if it went above 10 on the next PSA we would restart treatment.
Wowzers (is that a word?) my next PSA was 27.5 so it's back on HT for me !!
I trust my team and am happy to do so. I see differences everywhere BUT if you are happy with your team - that's what counts.
Best wishes - Brian.
