Hi, just wondering if anyone else with both Parkinson's and advanced prostate cancer has experienced a rapid progression in Parkinson's symptoms after starting leuprorelin 3 monthly injections. This seems to have happened with my dad, however I can't find any research as to whether or not the hormone treatment could have caused this.
Hello Helen Helen4042a1a
This question was asked a couple of months ago and here's the thread:
Prostate Cancer and Parkinson’s Disease
I have had another search again today - but can't find anyone who has posted with this issue.
I do hope you can find some answers.
Best wishes - Brian.

This is just a point of information. Our very own scottish comedian Billy Conolly was diagnosed with Parkinson's around the same time he had his prostate cancer diagnosis. Think he had it removed around 2010. Still alive and kicking at 82 or maybe 83 now. I remember him saying I'm told its "Parkinsons".... Well he can have it back because I dont want it....
Whether androgen deprivation therapy (ADT) worsens pre-existing Parkinson’s disease—in terms of motor symptoms or rate of progression—is not well established. Evidence is limited to isolated case reports suggesting possible symptom worsening, but there are no large, systematic studies confirming this link.
There may be subgroups of patients or specific ADT regimens that carry a higher risk of neurological impact, but current data are insufficient to draw firm conclusions.
That said, hormonal treatment is known to affect neurocognitive performance, mood, and neuromuscular coordination, which can negatively influence overall functional status in individuals with Parkinson’s disease, even if it does not directly accelerate the underlying neurodegenerative process.
thank you for your response. I have seen similar research to that which you mention around ADT affecting neurocognitive performance. I shall keep questioning Drs and trying to find if there are any other options for my dad. Thanks
