Hi has anyone else been prescribed calcium and Vitamin D supplement, is it really necessary?
safeway
I had a Dexter bone scan which found I’m have slight osteoporoses and with my Prostate cancer making it worse over time I was put on Alendronic acid one a week and Adcal dissolving tablets twice a day to increase bone density over time.
The likelihood is that you are suspected of having a deficiency of calcium which is tested via a blood test. Later you may get a Dexter scan if necessary.
It’s all too common but you can ask your team about what the reasons are for the extra calcium. You’ll then k ow for sure.
I have problems with my pelvis, spine and especially with my neck, if I sleep in any other position apart from on my back with 5 pillows I wake up to badly tingling hands and arms sometimes taking all day to improve.
We have a steep back garden when I walk up it I clonk loud enough for my wife to hear it.
My latest x-ray shows that pelvis joints have deteriorated since the bone scan early last year.
I have atherosclerosis and osteoporosis and more, the letter about the results of that last x-ray was so complicated that I had to use Google to understand it
So at 77 is it really worth taking calcium and vit D supplements.
I’m sorry to hear all you comorbidities but I would assume that you would benefit from the vitamin D and calcium supplements anyway. But like I always say, it’s the patients choice to listen to advice and make their own mind up what to do. Nobody will force you to do anything if you don’t want to.
You would still benefit from the supplements even though your bones are causing problems.
You have the problems that the supplements ore trying to assist with.
The question is " would it be worse without the supplements".
