Hi everyone

update of my brother he finished his 6 rounds of chemo on Tuesday and rang the bell . He’s had a cat scan today so we now wait results if that . All in all he’s doing well his mood is quite low but given time I think that will lift he’s now to continue on his hormone injections and daralutamide for life so fingers crossed now . Also he just can’t wait to get of the steroids which I think they will wean him off . He said the chemo not been easy but he’s done it now so hopefully this cat scan gives good news it’s the waiting and scans etc that get him down but let’s see what that says . Hope you are all doing well and keep going

  • Hello

Great news - I am sure his mood will improve once he's off the steroids and I wish you well with the scan results.

Thanks for keeping us in the loop.

    Best wishes - Brian.

  • Hi  don’t forget that the chemo is ongoing until this round is through his body, so although it has finished, it hasn’t really.  I am sure once he is through this week and off steroids he will improve.  Please ask any questions.

    Best wishes, David

  • Hi BG, my husband is just a few weeks ahead of your brother. He’s really struggled with energy levels since coming off the steroids, something to watch out for. I’m hoping he’ll continue to get stronger, but it’s just something we didn’t anticipate. I’m pleased to hear your brother got to ring the bell - even though he’s confirming with hormone treatment / darolutamide. Jeremy never got asked to do that, and we assumed it was because he’s advanced and isn’t “finishing” treatment as such - but it made the end of the chemo process quite emotionally hard for us. And I’m now wondering if it was simply a case of the nurse not realising it was his last chemo round?! Sending lots of positive thoughts for your brother

  • Hi Anna lovely to hear from you . My brother always assumed that you rang the bell if cured but the nurse said that wasn’t the case it was when you’ve finished the rounds of chemo my brother was reluctant to do it but she asked him to do it as jt gives others hope . Is your OH on triple therapy ? My brothers is advanced it’s in his seminal and lymph nodes initially his oncologist didn’t suggest tripple  therapy but after some research we asked for it and she agreed . It had to be done within 12 weeks of starting the hormone therapy . His PSA was 50.9 but has now gone down to 0.4 so that’s good news it’s just waiting for the dreaded scan results now but apart from severe fatigue loss of taste he has coped really well and peeing normal again so we are thinking the tumour has shrunk fingers crossed .

you take care and we are all in this together it’s so hard but this site and being able to talk on here has helped me so much

  • Hi, yes he’s on triplet therapy. He’s 44 and the spread has gone to his bones, so I think we were always looking at triplet therapy. It makes sense with the bell and with hindsight, would have given us a sense of closure from the chemo stage - whereas we just left, feeling quite deflated that there’s no real end to this process as such. We’ve just had MRI results and they were good - there’s still some active cancer in the prostate but the plan is to zap that with radiotherapy. Otherwise, he’s had a complete response and all of the metastasis has gone so we’re just hoping we can maintain this response for a long time. Keeping everything crossed for your brother’s results, and do keep us posted  - sending love and strength xxx

  • Hi Anna sorry I’m late with reply I’ve just returned from holiday . I didn’t realise you Husband was only 44 that’s so young but hearing it more and more in younger men early detection very important My brother has said the chemo has been the hardest but he’s glad he went for the triple therapy hit it hard . Still waiting for scan results but we have to believe it’s good news . The fatigue iwhat my brother said is the hardest and the hot sweats I’ve just got him the sage tablets which he started yesterday so fingers crossed they ease the sweats for him I got him one of them cold towels loves it said it’s brilliant in the house but won’t take it out with him said he’s not walking around with a towel on his head Joy . Take care x
