My partner has had a call about his CT results from a specialist prostate nurse, thankfully he recorded the call and sent it across to me.....results show NO spread to lymph nodes which we are surprised but happy about, noticed a small nodule on his lung but advised this is nothing to worry about. No biopsies to be taken, not sure how we feel about this, sounds like they reckon its bad enough and biopsies wont confirm anything else relevant
Case now to be handed over to Oncology, appt on 27th August, 2 days before 3rd Degarelix injection. My partner asked the nurse about chemo, nurse said that he didnt think this would be an option, however, best to wait for Oncology, he also said that they might want to add Abireratone into the mix. Nurse just said that "we wouldn't usually use chemo in a case like yours".....I thought most people were offered chemo
I have read that chemo can be ineffective if there are only bone mets as its more targeted at soft tissue, lymph spread etc.
I know there are many men who have been treated with HT alone, we are still really upbeat and positive! Plan on living our best lives for as long as possible!
I’m on Carboplatin for bone mets as the only med other than Zoladex. Although this is a BRCA2 specialist chemo I don’t know where you got the into saying chemo is not good for bone mets, in fact I hope you’re wrong (in a good way). I was told that Docataxel was my other tool in the box from bone mets and I’m sticking with that thought.
I’m sure there’ll be confirmation one way or another from the forum or if ask the clinicians in charge of you, but it sounds you are getting your head around good news.
The problem I have with good news is that I struggle to comprehend it. I’ve got used to being used to bad news and trying my best to stay positive. Next week I have scan results and I’m worried that they will be bad obviously, however if they’re better than I expected I will be confused and doubting everything I hear. It’s probably natural to be pessimistic and hope for the best, it’s all I can do.
Good luck and wait for real data from experts.
Hello .....I probably just didn't word it very well, was feeling quite deflated yesterday, feeling better today
. The comment made by the nurse "in a case like yours we wouldn't use chemo" spurred me on to do some reading, I can confirm that I also read plenty information to say that chemo does help bone mets but I guess i was too focused on the negative or basically looking for an answer! Apologies if I have caused concern, I normally do and will stay off Google in the future! After listening to the recording again, the nurse is essentially saying that they are looking at effectiveness of chemo against side effects and maybe at the moment they want to carry on with degarelix and add Abireratone which is another HT which works differently, only available in Scotland on prescription at the moment.
Hopefully find out more when we meet with oncology.....no more googling.
Good luck with your scan results, will look for your update ️
