Our journey so far on my profileStar

So i am not doubting my partners diagnosis of advanced mestastic PC, however, i am wondering if anyone else has been given this diagnosis based on extremely high PSA, abnormal DRE and bone scan showing multiple lesions/hotspots??

I posted on another well known forum and have been inundated with responses telling me that there is no way you can have a confirmed diagnosis without a biopsy.

While I get that, I did question the Urologist and asked if bone scan could be showing something else and he said "no, I am sorry, this is advanced PC".

My partner does have CT Scan booked this week and the biposies will also be done but we have been advised this is to confirm treatment plan, diagnosis is definite.

Anyone else been in a similar situation? Iam in no way questioning the diagnosis, just wondered if anyone has experienced a similar journey?

Thank youBlush

  • You can have a diagnosis without a biopsy
I couldn't have a biopsy as they had put me on Apixaban which is an anticoagulant.
I had originally gone to the GP due to a pain in my chest which turned out to be a pulmonary embolism
One of the additional tests they did at the time was a PSA test and they came back as 380+

    And the rest is history....

    Keep Positive ;-)

  • Hello Polly (

Yes you can have a diagnosis before a biopsy. The biopsy is the "Gold Standard" for the diagnosis but I received my diagnosis before my biopsy results. Not everyone is either fit enough for a biopsy or their medication prevents it.

I was admitted to hospital on 24 December 2021. My initial PSA was 182 and my MRI scan showed a "dark patch" on my pelvis. I was booked for a biopsy before I left hospital on 3 January 2022. My Urologist saw me on the ward on 29 December 2021, told me I had Prostate Cancer and started me on Hormone Therapy there and then. (full details of my journey if you click on my user name or avatar).

My formal diagnosis was given at the MDT meeting in January 2022 once my biopsy results were known.

    Best wishes - Brian.
