Biopsy results

So received a emailed letter from the hospital advising to expect a phone call this coming Tuesday morning from Urology - while not explicitly saying this was the results of the TP biopsy I can’t imagine what else it could be. After my MRI I receive a text to expect a call from a clinician and to set aside 15 minutes (gulp - that was a red flag) but this time there’s no time frame whatsoever. So, without asking for next weeks lotto numbers, does the NHS sausage factory dish out bad news by phone ? My instinctive reaction is no of course not but then again……………

  • Hi Cubpaws

You don't say what the MRI indicates or what your PSA figures are which potentially more important than the biopsy.

Biopsy would confirm if cancer but MRI and PSA can also give indications.

Suppose biopsy figures can be given over the phone but as you say hopefully cos perhaps no cancer or low Gleeson.

    Good luck anyway

  • So PSA was 4.8. MRI showed genrwl inflammation. Three cores taken on a fusion TP biopsy so it assuming whatever they saw that looked suspicious wasn’t a large area. The digital exam indicated enlargement on one side.

  • So clinician advised they weren’t sure of what the mri showed was inflammation or something h sinister. PSA was 4.8. All promoted by difficulty getting a catheter in after hip replacement in January (“have you got prostate cancer ?” As nurse Ratchet used a mallet to get it in). Almost funny.

  • Hi  Only 3 cores taken?  Wow that is unusual and sounds like they’re really not sure if it is cancer.  AW

  • It was MRI guided fusion type biopsy I only counted three clicks of the needle gun. Was expecting twelve or more from what I’d read. Very quick, very pain free. O my damage was to my dignity

  • Well does sound like could be 50/50 if cancer , that PSA is near (Ish) normal.

Even if cancer looks easily treatable and potentially curable.

  • Thanks for your input - soon find out for sure either way

  • Hello

Sorry to say in this day and age the NHS to give out cancer diagnosis by telephone!! (to me it's wrong but there you go!).

As you have no idea what the call will involve it's perhaps a good idea to have a list of questions ready "just in case". Here's a link that should prove helpful:

Good luck on Tuesday - please do let us know how you get on.

    Best wishes - Brian.

  • I’m afraid it does deliver good and bad news by phone. That was how we got my husbands diagnosis :( Wecwere told he had cancer by an GP  after MRI without waiting for biopsy for confirmation. It is not ideal and very insensitive and we have complained bitterly! I hope your phone call brings good news!

  • hi, whatever the result is, please stay on this forum rather than google etc, there is a lot of good experienced  and knowledgeable people, who between us all have probably been through most scenarios/treatments.
