Hello - I wanted to ask about folks’ experiences of seeking a second opinion. I’m unhappy with the medication I have been prescribed (Prostap) and want to access Relugolix, mainly due to it having a better side effect profile where cardiac issues are concerned.
It is on the local formulary, however my consultant has flatly refused to prescribe as he says that he has not yet seen enough real world data to convince him that it will produce at least the same results as he sees with Prostap.
Of guys who gave sought second opinions, what is your experience in doing so? I’m thinking of a) how successful has doing so proven, b) how has it affected relationships with clinicians and c) any advice in how to go about it?
A second opinion will normally be without issues. It should happen quickly and if you have a choice of who that second opinion would be with, even better.
My second opinion was very easy and peaceful ending with a better clinician looking after me.
Mine however was a matter regarding personalities and confidence whereas yours is a drug so my old clinical relationship was ruined in place of another better one. Your Issue shouldn’t need the wholesale change I had.
Good luck with your double check.
