Hi all
LH just had a call from the hospital (3 hours earlier than scheduled) to discuss his MRI and bone marrow scan. It caught us a bit on the hop!
She said that there was something on the scan that looked like it was probably cancer but that the good news was that there was nothing to indicate that had spread outside the prostate.
He will need to have a biopsy which will be arranged in the next few days and that will probably be in about 3 weeks time. She said he will probably have a PET whole body scan as well and then she will meet in person to discuss the results and treatment.
LH seems disappointed that it is cancer but with a PSA of 57 it seemed pretty much inevitable and I am relieved that the news was not worse at this stage!
Thank you all for listening to my ramblings over the past couple of weeks - I am sure there will be more to come
Hello Dogs4me
The diagnostic process is a nightmare but once you have all LH's results and a treatment plan life will revert to the "new normal". I agree an initial PSA of 57 is an indicator of cancer - and at least you are making progress now.
Here's a link to our biopsy guide:
Thanks for the update and I wish you well moving forward.
Best wishes - Brian.

Ok D
Not too bad news then, potentially curable.
Just one thing, they say something on the scan that looks like could be cancer, when u next talk to them ask them if they have any info about potential tumour size.
Anyway let's hope pet scan clear which means confined to the gland,
All the best
Steve
Thanks Steve
i must admit that I am a bit confused by the PET scan. As she said nothing was showing in his bone scan or in the nodes what does the PET scan do? I assumed that it would be to have a better look at anything found on the other scans. If not why not go straight to the PET scan .....?
Thanks again
Yes u are right, doesn't make too much sense.
bone scan clear, MRI shows something presumably in the gland , Pet scan a bit different to MRI but don't think a lot.
Hopefully biopsy and further scan will happen soon and the best news, well obviously not cancer, if just in the gland and a Gleeson 6 or 7, not aggressive.
Good luck
Steve
Hello Dogs4me
I think the PET Scan has been ordered to double check that there's no spread. The MRI/Bone Scan may well be clear but a PSA of 57 is in the "fun zone" so a PET Scan will confirm one way or another if there is any spread.
The PET Scan uses radioactive tracer which "attaches" it's self to any cancer cells.
I think it shows you have a good team behind you and they are leaving no stone unturned.
Best wishes - Brian.

I've had a couple of trans-perineal biopsies and the local anesthetic does sting a bit. Fortunately it is fast acting so takes effect quickly. You can feel a numb internal thud every time they take a sample, but overall it's not as bad as I was expecting.
Just be aware that the procedure causes bleeding within the prostate, so the first time you ejaculate after the biopsy it comes out looking like tomato sauce.
