Please see our story in my profile, very early days, no diagnosis yet.......

I am just looking to hear from anyone who has had an initial PSA of over 100 and still been treated with curative intent??

Also, thank you to everyone who has offered us reassuring words and advice on previous post, this group is a place we will visit very often during our journey Slight smile

  • From memory, one of our community champions,  , had an initial PSA over 100 and is being treated with curative intent.

Having tagged him he will be along soon to give you his perspective.

My own PSA level was much lower, so I don't really answer your question.

However, I think that curative intent might have more to do with where the cancer is and how far it has spread than with the PSA level.

It is really difficult to work out what might happen until you have the full breakdown, and a plan can be made.

This is the most difficult time, with the grinding wait for tests and results.

Keep going though - you are not waiting to see if there is help, you are waiting to see which help.

    Changed, but not diminished.
  • Thanks Steve, yeah Millibob has commented on my previous post and his story so far is hopefulSlight smile.....this stage is so difficult, just waiting. Every slight pain, cough etc, we are thinking has it spread!Face palm tone1

We don't even have a diagnosis but have accepted that it is very likely.

  • Hi Polly

Yes it is possible for PSA of over 100 to still be curable.

Depends what the scans show, I see he is having a bone scan but has he already had a MRI?

    Steve

  • Hi Steve, no bone scan is first appt then urology will be in touch with another appt for other testsShrug tone1

  • Ok, thought they normally did the MRI first and then the bone scan.

I presume that is the only PSA , nothing before?

Well you'll have to wait for the bone scan , fingers crossed not in the bones.

Do  inquire about the MRI scan cos don't think the bone scan can look at the prostate gland which u really need to see.

    Best wishes

  • Yeah i will do, I think my nhs board seem to do it this way, maybe its because of his high psa level, which is his first and so far only reading. I think once he goes to urology he will get the mri and and any necessary biopsies.....I have been doing alot of readingJoy.....got alot of positive mental attitude swirling around too!

  • Yes, u could be right, bone scan first because of high PSA.

    Good luck for next week
