Yesterday I was told by my consultant I no longer need to have HT Injections. I have been having 3 monthly ones for 33 months, it was going to be 36 months. I had RT 2 years ago.
My PSA has been a steady 0.02 for the last 18 months.
At diagnosis my PSA was 8.2, Gleeson 3+4, and TB3 (spread to the seminal vessels.)
Now I'm not complaining but it's just unexpected. I will have 3 monthly PSA tests for the first 12 months, then 6 monthly the following year.
How have others dealt with the transition its both a huge relief and a little daunting at the same time.
Hi Brizzy1,
Whilst it can seem a bit daunting when the HT is stopped as it's something you have been trusting (along with the RT) to batter the PC into submission, in reality it's a huge step forward. Your medical team must believe it's the right thing to do at this precise moment & it's backed up by your consistently steady PSA level. 3 monthly PSA tests will allow them to keep a close eye on things & take action if necessary.
I was fortunate in only being on HT for 9 months which was planned that way from the start, so looked on it that the treatment was obviously progressing as intended & therefore nothing to be concerned about. In your case, it's actually finishing 3 months earlier than planned so in your shoes I would be thinking of it as a win win situation & maybe treat yourself (& wife / partner) to something special like a meal / short break etc to celebrate.
Best Wishes
Brian
Brizzy1 here is my experience of ending HT.
My RT was completed 14 August 2024 and I was supposed to be on HT for six months after however I managed to escape the last implant with the agreement of my oncologist which meant that I was only on it for five months.
My PSA results as of 15th Feb were below 0.03 another which I fobbed my GP off for on the 25th April was still below 0.03. My next is due on the 30th June so I will see then how things are progressing, much the same I hope.
The down side is that my Testosterone level had not recovered at all on the previous tests neither have the hot flushes diminished. I have eventually been prescribed Tadalafil 5mg which do seem to be improving the ED problem.
I wish you well and hope that your recovery continues.
Congratulations something to celebrate it’s done its job time to get back to normal. I have recently had my last injection a year earlier then planned and am looking forward to getting rid of the unwanted effects especially muscle pain in my arms and really hoping to get some life back in the old penis! You were a very similar diagnosis to myself just had my second PSA post treatment now down to 0.09 Job done! Ever hope its behind us now Best Wishes David
