Hi
I had aquablasion a month ago but I’ve just been told I have cancer and it was in 5% of the biopsy taken. What does this mean please? Does this mean it’s caught early? I’m just five years cancer free from oesophageal cancer so I’m worried. My surgeon said it’s nothing to worry about and to go on my holiday and have blood tests when I come back on 23rd July.
Should I be worried?
Hello motorcycle123 and welcome. It is standard practice to look at the tissue removed during your procedure to check whether there was cancer present and in your case it has been found. You need to ask what the Gleason score is as this will give you an Idea of what you are dealing with. The procedure has removed some cancer cells but you need to find out if there are any left so I would expect you to have more tests to confirm this, starting with the PSA and possibly an MRI. Prostate cancer is normally slow growing so don't panic. Also when caught early it can be treated with curative intent but also if it is a low Gleason score of 6 3+3 they might also recommend Active Surveillance. I have attached a link to a book which you can download for free which explains the tests which will be done as well as what the results mean along with the possible treatments.
Go on holiday and recharge your batteries then come back and find out what you are dealing with.
