I’ve been taking Tamsulosin since July 2023 when I was diagnosed with an enlarged prostate. At the time I’d wake up in the night and had problems urinating. Following this I was diagnosed with Gleason 4+5=9 but no spread. I hace 6 monthly hormone injections and had radiotherapy in May/June last year. My PSA is currently “undetectable”. I’m still taking Tamsulosin but I’m unsure whether I need to. If my prostate has shrunk is it still necessary. None of the urology/oncology people have raised the issue and I not asked either. Any comments welcome.
Hi Coltrane,
I have been on Tamsulosin for approximately 2 years but like many people prefer not taking tablets unless necessary. I have experimented extending the time between tablets to every 36 or 48 hours to see how I get on but find that it does affect the rate of flow. As I also have a propensity for kidney stones I have to drink plenty of fluids as a norm so it's important that I do have a good flow to flush out any stones that may have formed.
As David2017 has suggested it might be worth checking with your GP / team to see if they are still relevant.
Best Wishes
Brian
