I feel like a complete wreck. My husbands Psa was 14, then 2 weeks later it was 12.  MRI results is pirad 4. The size of the prostate is 35cc and the Dre seemed normal and benign.  We are waiting for a biopsy, but I feel so frightened as this was so unexpected.

  • Hi WW

Doesn't seem too bad, PSA lowish, what more does the MRI say in terms of potential tumour size.

Pirads 4 means likely could be cancer although biopsy needed to confirm.

U need some more info really but with that PSA level in theory any cancer should be early stage.

See if u can get some more info and come back

    Best wishes

  • We have just left the consultant, so I am trying to remember what he said.  He said there are lesions that he wants to biopsy. He said the dre felt benign and only slightly enlarged.  The size of the prostate was 35cc and the mri showed pi rad 4.  This is all new to me, so I have spiralled into panic mode

  • Ok, well dre good, lesions must show on MRI that's why biopsy needed, U could find out size of lesions in mm, obviously smaller the better.

At this stage difficult to say but with that PSA could be easily treatable.

Hopefully the biopsy will be soon

  • Hello  . At the moment they are being cautious and trying to determine whether your husband has cancer or not. The prostate is a normal size and there are many men who have a PSA at that level but it is benign or at a low level and the biopsy will tell you this. A Pirads 4 score does not automatically mean that your husband has cancer but about 37% of men are found to have a clinically significant disease. If your husband does have prostate cancer it is now one of those cancers which can be treated with curative intent for the majority of men, especially if it is found early. I found that learning about what to expect helped me to get some control over my emotions but of course you are frightened as it is all new to you and the word cancer sends us all into a panic to start with. Just remember, 98% of men die with it and not of it. This is a good book which you can download for free to get you started.

Things do get better as you find out what you are facing but more importantly when you have a plan if he is diagnosed with cancer.

  • Thank you very much for your reply.  I had just come out of the consultants room and I felt so panicked.  You helped calm and rationalise things.

  • Thank you for replying.  I just felt like shouting, someone help me, so I really appreciated the connection.

  • Hi  - you’ve come to the right place.  Sounds curable to me, based on the scant information so far.  My advice is read some of the profiles on here (click the snowy scene for mine, for instance).  You’re in the worst worrying phase.  It will pass - I assure you.  AW
