Hello all, hope you’re all doing ok. Just an update as I haven’t posted for a while - Shawn had his surgery yesterday, I spoke to him this morning and he sounds good but tired. We’re hoping he will come home today but waiting to find out.
I've updated my profile and it’s been really helpful to me, but they found a lot of scar tissue before they managed to get to the actual procedure, and had to spend 20 minutes cutting that away. We’re not really sure why that is as he’s never had surgery but hopefully I’ll find out more today.
Anxious about what the next few months bring - his recovery, his general mental health and the follow up results. Very early days but trying to keep positive and get him through this next stage.
I haven't had the surgery but two good friends have.
They had a completely different pathway afterwards.
One was clear of side effects, mainly incontinence, within 3 months.
The other was still having incontinence problems 12 months on.
The important thing is that both were determined to overcome the problems, and had very good support from family and friends.
They also both paid a great deal of attention to pelvic floor exercises, which the one who had the longest term problems said were the main reason for him overcoming his difficulties.
Tell him he is already on the winning side.
Steve
