Hello

My partner was recently diagnosed prostate cancer. No symptons just went for a PSA test as we went to a wellness evening and there was a stand with info on prostate cancer.

At the appt for the biopsy results we were shocked to find his Gleason score was 9, cancer found in 11/13 samples. T2N0. Waiting for results of bone scan. I'm anxious as they sent him for an x-ray on his spine after the bone scan and he has had lower back issues for ages.

He has an appt on Friday 13th June, I assume to discuss treatment. Just want to ask if there is anything we need ask or what to expect.

Thank you.

  • Hi Shefflass and welcome

I suppose the best bit of news here is that it is a T2 so still contained in the gland.

So unlikely therefore that spread to the bones, U don't give any PSA figures which could help

  • Hi Grundo

Thanks for getting back so quickly. His PSA was 11.

  • Ok , so with that kind of figure very unlikely to have spread anywhere else.

So it looks like you'll have to decide on surgery or Radiotherapy but wait until the 13th and see what they say

    Best wishes

    Steve

  • Thanks Grundo

    Take care

  • Hello

A warm welcome to the Macmillan Online Prostate Community from me - although I am so sorry to find you here.

As a fellow member of the Gleason 9 club I can understand your anxiety although as  said a T2 and lowish PSA you should be offered either surgery or hormone therapy/radiotherapy.

My advice at the moment is start a diary of events and keep every contact name, e-mail and phone number you come across (you can read my journey - without any contact details by clicking on my avatar) this helps you remember events.

Questions for your team can be personal so here's a list you can consider:

    Questions for your team.

At your appointment don't be rushed into making a choice - consider the options and side effects of each treatment as to how they would affect BOTH of you.

We are all happy to answer any questions.

    Best wishes - Brian.

  • Thank you Millibob. The nurse at the first appt sort of gave us the impression that everything would be fine, as it was a lowish PSA, which is why at the results appt it came as a shock when  the nurse said it's aggressive.

I'm just anxious as he has had lower back ache for a while and then being sent for an xray on his spine straight after his nuclear scan.

I need to try and control my thoughts.

    Take care.

  • Hello

So T2 = The cancer is inside the gland . Good!

N0 = it's not in the lymph nodes. Good!

There should also be a "M" do you have this?

To me the lower back ache sounds to be unconnected.

    Best wishes - Brian.

  • Hi Brian

I'm not sure what the other N is? The nurse said the M will be filled in after the bone scan results.

    Thanks - Eileen

  • Hi Eileen (

That's me -sorry - it's been a long weekend, I live in Oldham and was at Wembley yesterday and didn't get home until the early hours.

    Yes you are correct "M".

If it helps your anxiety it's good to know 98% of men with Prostate Cancer die WITH it not OF it.

    Best wishes - Brian.

  • Hello  . If you want to find out what the different results mean and possible treatment pathways there is a good book which you can download for free.
