It’s Magly here again after being quiet for a while. Everything going well with the cancer treatment but now have radiation proctitis coupled with diverticulitis.
Cancer wise PSA is at 0.05 after 18 months of hormone therapy. The only thing now is the hot sweats are really getting very frequent and very hot! Also been diagnosed with pelvic radiation disease following a colonoscopy to find cause of rectal haemorrhage.
Question is has anyone found a workaround for the sweats that doesn’t involve sage in any form

  • Hi  , I've had severe hot flushes day and night, eventually I was prescribed medroxyprogestrone 20mg a day and that really sorted it. I still get a few a day but they're much milder, and it doesn't wake me up at night.

    Hope this helps

  • Hello Magly, I was suffering terribly with hot flushes. I was referred to our Holistic centre for a course of accupuncture, once a week for 10 weeks, 5 needles in each ear. Unfortunately didn't work for me but the technician said it has a good sucess rate. So the Oncologist prescribed Cyproterone 50 mgm once a day and this worked for me. I am on the Stampede research trial and have blood tests every 6 months.

I also was diagnosed with rediation proctitis after a course of radiotherapy to the secondary tumour on my illiac bone. To curtail the bleeding I was referred to Gastrology and the consultant suggested 4 sygmoidoscopies at 4 weeks apart and a Haemolitic agent called Purastat inserted to the areas that were affected. This worked to stop the bleeding but I now have a chronic urgency problem due to the proctitis. The majority of proctitis cases usually settle down but after 2 years it remains. I have joined the Newcastle university reseach into the management of colorectal symptoms following  radiotherapy to the pelvic area. The research is called Colo- Spirit and is available to read online.

Hope your symptoms settle down. All the best Graham.

  • Thank you for the information. Gives me something to look into. Hope things get better for you soon.
