So we saw the consultant surgeon yesterday and he confirmed prostate cancer. I think I was prepared for the news but my OH was thinking it was going to be benign. His Gleeson score was 7 in one part of the prostate and 8 in the otherr, T2b. They took 21 biopsies and 9 have cancer cells. Next step is a CT scan however the consultant believes (90%) that it is contained to the prostate. If this is the case he will have robotic prostatectomy surgery. They have to wait for the CT scan results before they can book his surgery, they said the waiting times are 6-8 weeks for the surgery. So not the news we were hoping for and now fingers crossed for the CT scan - not sure the waiting time for that.
Hello Caromac
Thank you for the update, and I am sorry to read it is Prostate Cancer - Gleason 7/8 with a T2b gives you plenty of options to be on a "curative pathway".
You say you have seen the surgeon and he's already booked in for surgery - have you been to the Oncologist and had a chat about other treatment options open to you - HT/RT and Brachytherapy?
This cancer is a "couples cancer" and the side effects of each treatment will affect both of you. Before you make that final choice I strongly suggest that you check out ALL options available to you and the pros and cons of each treatment as they affect both of you. (it sounds to me as you are being rushed and the surgeon is touting for business!).
Use trusted sources for your research, Prostate Cancer UK, Cancer Research UK and Macmillan (not Dr google) and come back here with your questions - we have been there - got the t-shirt,
We are all here to help with any questions you have.
Best wishes - Brian.

This link should take you to my original thoughts on treatment. I was all for surgery…..until I completed my research and discussed everything with a top surgeon and a top oncologist. I eventually chose radiotherapy (brachytherapy boost plus hormone therapy). AW
