My husband finished radiation last May and we have just had the latest psa results
it is 0.245 which I think is ok but really not sure?
another question his cancer cells were 4/3, does radiation work as well on grade 4 as on lower grade cells
Thank you x
Hi, that looks excellent to me. After my radiation in 2017 it has taken until now to drop to .25, I am happy with that.
As for your other question I think that the radiation works the same on any cancer cells 4/3 not that high anyway.
Back to the PSa , obviously just important that PSA doesn't start rising again so 6 monthly or yearly testing just to check.
Good luck
Steve

0.245 is a cracking result. Your husbands nadir or lowest PSA reading should be 18 months after Radiotherapy. Once you have this no further action would be needed unless your husband has:
* 3 consecutive PSA rises in a row.
* A rise of 2 whole points over the previous test.
As far as I know, radiotherapy works just the same on all cells if they have cancer or not - it kills them. During radiotherapy you lose "good" cells as well as infected cells.
I hope this helps.
Best wishes - Brian.

Hi
I finished my radiotherapy therapy 5th of December last year, my first PSA test was in January, it came back as 5, when diagnosed my PSA was 6.3.
I've had my second PSA but don't get told the results, they tell me they will only contact me if they think there is a problem with my PSA test.
Leaves me in a bit of a quandary, I read on here people talking about their PSA dropping quite low.
Was my first result okay?
Hello Cyril (Safeways)
Yes, you need to know your PSA results - they are YOUR results and you have the right to know.
If I remember correctly you are in Scotland so the NHS App is no good for you - so contact your Health authority and ask them to make a note on your records to send a note of each PSA reading to both yourself and GP.
If you have any issues here's a link you may find useful:

I hope you get it sorted.
Best wishes - Brian.

Hi !
I tried to interpret your diagnos and also your treatment.
Do I understand that your PSA was 6.3 Then the medical team put you on hormone therapy and then you had your radiation therapy together with hormone therapy and now after radiation your PSA was 5 some few weeks / a month after radiation
Normal standard is PSA test 3 months after final radiation and this is the first time you can see real trends so I would definetily ask them to provide you with your results.
Only having radiation without any hormone therapy can mean a slow and steady decrease for several months but if you have added hormone therapy then a drop from 6.3 to only 5 a month would have me worried and i would A. Order to see my PSA tests. B. I would order Testosterone level test to see if T levels is suppressed. C. Ask for a PSMA Pet Scan because if you have 5 or perhaps a little a PSMA Pet can cath and spots that might have been missed, or haven’t responded or even new spots
So this is not a case of waiting and your doctor / medical team should definetily act now
Hi all
Sorted it out, I rang my oncology suite today and spoke to one of the Oncologists, my PSA levels for the two tests is 0.1 negligible.
Where my GP got a PSA level of 5 from I don't know!
I have asked for them to send my doctor and myself a copy of the results in the future.
Thanks all for your advice.
