Palliative care team have just suggested a change from morphine to oxycodone for my husband. Does anyone have experience of this?
Thank you
Janet
My husband hasn't been on morphine or oxycodone so I don't have personal experience but I hope this information sheet helps.
There are different levels of help with pain and oxycodone seems to be 1.5 to 2 times stronger than morphine. I would suggest working with the palliative care team to sort out the dose which works for your husband. One thing I have noticed with my husband who was on Tramadol and has now moved to low dose Fentanyl is that he is less constipated which means he only occasionally takes a stool softener and he did initially have a couple of nightmares. It is also important to check whether the oxycodone can be taken with other medication or supplements he might be taking.
I hope this response brings you back to the top and you get a reply from someone with experience of oxycodone.
