Age 54 psa 44.
Got my Prostate/Pelvic MRI results earlier: t3aN1. Biopsy booked in for a couple weeks time.
Is a biopsy generally before a more comprehensive scan?.
Welcome to this forum. We say that it is the club that no-one wants to join, but if you ask the questions, you will get answers based on what has actually happened to people.
To answer your question, not necessarily.
It is possible you could have a CT Scan and a Bone Scan, but that will depend on the combination of the MRI and the biopsy.
No diagnosis of prostate cancer is any fun, but it is not the end of the world either.
To beat one of our forum members to the punch (sorry Alwayshope ) you mght find this useful:

Also, I found this video useful when I was worried about how long things were taking - maybe it will help you:

The whole YouTube channel on that last one is interesting.
In terms of diagnosis, this is what I had:
MRI Scan
CT Scan
Bone Scan
Biopsy
Fortunately, they all agreed with each other
10 months on, I have had hormone therapy and just been through the radiotherapy.
It has not been bad.
I have had far more trouble with a recent slipped disc.
Others will chime in with their own experiences.

Changed, but not diminished.
Yes. Histology is King. Biopsy will tell you where you stand. AW
Hi Eikcorb , sorry to find you here, nice to meet you.
I'm 50, diagnosed 18 months ago at age 49, with T3a PSA 42.8, Gleason 9.
Gleason is one of the main things you get from the biopsy, apart from final confirmation of the cancer (though for guys like us with positive MRI and high PSA it's clean the biopsy will be positive). Gleason shows how aggressive the cancer is and is one of the things that helps decide the treatment path.
I've had a PSMA pet scan after my biopsy to finalise the staging , and CT,MRI,bone scan before the biopsy.
I'm on a curative pathway with a 3 years treatment, our stats are very similar so I hope your pathway will be curative too.
Good luck with finalising your staging.
Any questions, please ask, there are no silly questions. If there are questions you prefer to ask privately please message directly.
You probably know this, but if you click on a person's name in the forum you get to see their biography, that's were we put a summary of our cancer journey. It's useful to see where people are at.
Hope this helps.
